This will surely be the total catalyst for Blu-Ray players to be sold when this superb set is converted to the HD format of Blu-Ray.

Overall the movies and sound (real room shaking stuff on a decent surround sound system) even on DVD put anything else to shame.

Sorry to go against the grain but I saw this a while ago and it just felt like an overly long Gwar music video,I say overly long,it probably feels like a music video next to Mr Jackson's other bum-numbers,King Kong,LOTR etc..I personally think the Evil Dead films are so much better.

This is an epic version of 'King Kong' with many virtues. The cast is uniformly good, particularly Naomi Watts in the Fay Wray part, vulnerable but feisty, naive but characterful. Peter Jackson has a proven track record of visual splendour, and he does not disappoint here. The special effects are mostly very impressive indeed, and there are some pleasant imaginative and humorous touches. I've seen it twice, and the first time I liked it and it just about held my interest, but the second time it dragged. Reaching Skull Island, seeing the monster, tracking it after it has gone off with the girl, they all had their moments, but I found myself wanting to go and make a cup of tea too often. It does end well, and there is something of the pathos of the old original ... Read More:

A magnificently beautiful film. Remaining loyal to the book, Peter Jackson has made a huge leap from his earlier (and FANTASTIC) blood-soaked gore-fests (BAD TASTE, MEET THE FEEBLES and BRAINDEAD) - keep your eye out for a cameo from Lionel's mother from BRAINDEAD as a hobbit in the extended version of this. The action is brilliant, the shots are stunning, the special effects are breath-taking, the acting is superb, and the music is beyond phonemenol. Definetly one of the greatest film (if not the greatest trilogy) since 2000. A MUST SEE!"

The first film (Fellowship of the Ring) was closer to the book in content and in the overall feel of the film. Sadly, this film suffers from what the first film did not .... its a little too 'Hollywoodised' and Peter Jackson could be accused of George Lucas-esc tackyness. Unlike the first installment, this movie differs too much from the book. The films ending is corny with an over the top Hollywood-esc speech from Sam which was a little too cringfull. The main battle at the end of the movie is visually impressive but has over-the-top moments that almost ruin the climax. These moments include such tacky antics as Legolas riding his shield like a surf-board down a set of stair whilst firing arrows .... and where Aragorn and Gimli hold off hundreds of Orcs all by themselves. ... So this is it. Yet another cinematic trilogy draws to a close. Great things comes in threes : the Star Wars Trilogy. The Omen Trilogy. Indiana Jones. The Omen. The Godfather. The Matrix (er, maybe I should rethink this particular theory).

And now this. The final four hours of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. But this isn't a trilogy, nor is it just a remake or a continuation (it's not The Lord Of The Rings 3-d : The Revenge, for example), simply the third and final part of the story.

And my god, it's long. Two hundred and ten bum-numbing minutes. That's three times as long as Toy Story. There's not even an intermission : just a constant, endless trawl of dialogue, CGI, and stuff. Endless long panning shots - Look At This! It's Big! It's Slow! It's got.... Ominous ... Read More:

Once in a while an actor is cast in a film that perfectly suits him or her (Viggo Mortenson in Lord of the Rings also comes to mind) and for Michael J. Fox as a conman who clears houses of ghosts (who he actually sees and works with!) - this is his ideal role. If you have seen King Kong or LOTR first it might actually surprise you to know that Peter Jackson (the director of The Frighteners and the above mentioned films) was actually making horror comedy long before he went Hollywood. If you have seen braindead (thoroughly tasteless Australian zombie movie) then you will not easily forget the hero charging through the house with an upright lawnmower, mowing zombies left and right in an attempt to rescue his girl).
The Frighteners is a film that manages to refresh a genre through having ... Read More:

Over dramatic, Heavy handed, Shall I go on?, yes!, Less is more is certainly a phrase alien to Peter Jackson, King Kong is the movie equivalent to being smashed over the head with a sledge hammer, the viewer is an idiot so can't understand simple things like were all going for a jaunty cruise to Skull Island, best make every rock and pebble look like a Skull, Yeah Ok I'm getting it now, Skull Island!!!. Throw in a charmless script seemingly written by an 8 year old. Half the time you could just tell what the next line was going to be, Destroy the viewers suspension of disbelief by conjuring some of the most ridiculous action scene's ever, shot from a special angle designed to get rid of all sense of scale and were getting a pretty bad film.
Not everything is awful, the final scenes in New ... Read More:
