THIS IS SURELY ONE OF THE SADDEST, MOST MOVING FILMS EVER MADE.

THE STORY OF 3 HALF ABORIGINAL GIRLS LITERALLY TORN FROM THEIR MOTHER'S ARMS BY WHITE AUSTRALIANS TRYING TO 'IMPROVE' THEIR LIVES. THE GIRLS SHOW HUGE COURAGE WITH A DIGNIFIED QUIET DURING THEIR 1200 MILE WALK BACK TO THEIR HOMELANDS. THE LACK OF SENSATIONALIST HOLLYWOOD STYLE ACTION SEQUENCES AND MINIMAL DIALOGUE ADD REAL POIGNIANCY TO THE STORY. THE SCENERY IS INCREDIBLE, ANYONE WHO HAS TRAVELLED THROUGH THE RED CENTRE OF AUSTRALIA WILL KNOW JUST HOW HARSH & UNFORGIVING IT IS. IT IS A TRUE MIRACLE THAT THEY SURVIVED.

THE FACT IT HAPPENED AGAIN TO ONE OF THEM WITH HER OWN CHILDREN IS EVEN MORE OF A TERRIBLE INDICTMENT OF THE MISGUIDED,CRUEL, POLICIES ... Read More:

I enjoyed it very much but...I'm not happy with the motivation of the crime. Pazzling the crime is pretty good.

This is an incredible show that needs to come back as soon as possible. After the first episodes you just get addicted to it-such a great show, too bad Fox cancelled it..

Who better to play down-to-earth hero Jack Ryan than the-guy-next-door? Harrison Ford does Tom Clancy's character complete justice. With his crooked smile, and as ever fantastic acting, Patriot Games is a sheer pleasure to watch.

More often than not, movies do not do justice to the books. This however is not the case here. Of course a movie cannot possibly include all the little details that a book can, but even those who never read Clancy's books would enjoy this movie. Good dose of action and drama...couple of hours perfect entertainment!

Nothing compares when a well written novel with a simple but plausible plot meets an equally well crafted and acted movie.

I had read Graham Greene's cynical book in the late 70's and had seen Mankiewicz's film too. For some reason that film, to me, never seemed to quite capture the right mood of the characters.

Bring on Michael Cain and Brendan Frasier, and suddenly I felt that my vision of this book had been answered; a political cloak-and-dagger thriller that includes a love triangle, passionate and spiked with intrigue, mirroring on a personal scale the dangers that Vietnam would eventually bring America.

I think this to be one of the best later Caine movies, laconic but scient acting well rounded off by Fraser's naive play. ... Read More:

In an age of over-budgeted films, this stands out as being a classic for it's non-nonsense approach that engages you into the endless miles of open water, and the exciting, though daunting, thought of being in the middle of a rescue and hostage situation.

Billy Zane, who plays a homicidal maniac, puts in a strong performance which he seems to adapt better than his more 'sane' roles. Sam Neil offers his usual calm and content style that matches well with the ideology of calm open water, while Nicholle Kidman's take on his spouse is perhaps a little wooden, but these were early days for the actress, and it's credit that she took on the role so well.

Dead Calm is not your 'modern-thriller', in which story and directing take second place. It is an excellently constructed ... Read More:

Let's start at the beginning, if you're expecting a Roger Moore/Ian Ogilvy portrayal of Simon Templar then you're going to be disappointed. If you want James Bond with a halo, you're going to be disappointed. But having said that the movie is not disappointing, but very good.

The film just couldn't be like the old TV series, the world has moved on and the old style cannot be replicated if it wants to appeal to a new audience. Kilmer presents a very different Saint, one that is refreshing and you get the sense that Leslie Charteris' original basis for his hero was drawn upon. Kilmer's international master criminal, master of most, but not all disguises is very entertaining, if somewhat innocent.

Elisabeth Shue provides the love interest, and the two work well together. And ... Read More:

This film is an obvious capitalization of Basic Instinct's success. As usual in these cases, it fails. While the plot is promising, it never creates the proper atmosphere and it lacks depth. It is worth just for Sharon Stone, who is a pleasure to watch, and the redeeming soundtrack.
