Priceless (original title "Hors de Prix") is a very run-of-the-mill comedy. Pretty much everything about it can be classed under the general category of "average". There's nothing wrong with the film - the actors do good work, the locations are flamboyant and the idea behind the plot is quite original. If that sounds like a list of ingredients to you, that's good, because the film feels like it was from a recipe found in a book, lacking the inspiration that would have been provided by a good chef, or director.

A categorisation of light-hearted, rather than comedy, would be better for this film. There are no real laugh-out-loud moments, just one mildly awkward situation after another as the protagonists attempt to live the high ... Read More:

As the other reviewers pointed out, this is just what - to me - a light comedy is all about.....
It's fun, not cruel (knowing that 'Louis' is NOT going to kill himself!), has plenty of wonderful moments and some scenes that make me smile over and over again. The one with the raincoat for instance is one I shall treasure...., another one is the way, Louis was swirling the wine for an eternity (wine tasting will never be the same after this film!), or simply Antoine buying more and more flowers and getting nearly buried in his car!
I do agree, Blanche is really rather colourless; I would have chosen a actress with a bit more appeal! I have found it hard to believe that both guys would fall over themselves to be with her but hey, it's easy entertainment ... Read More:

Les Apprentis is the sort of French film that even determined Francophobes can warm to. No arty shots of Paris; no thirty-somethings debating Pascal's wager at dinner parties. Instead, this deadpan social comedy follows two deadbeats, Fred and Antoine, who live on pocket-sized food stolen from supermarkets, drink cheap booze and have conversations about anything from palpitations to urination. They move through a world of peeling wallpaper, dirty windows and wing-collared seventies shirts in a film that's proud to be shabby-looking.

They're not quite Laurel and Hardy, but the two leads still get laughs just for looking a bit silly together. Lanky, gangling Depardieu (son of Gerard) is an excellent foil for the more compact and traditionally French-looking Cluzet, ... Read More:

This is a great film - very funny in a dry kind of way, and a fine tribute to Guillaume Depardieu and Marie Trintignant (both sadly RIP). Well overdue for a DVD release; hopefully the British remake that's currently in production will prompt that.
