I'll never understand why this film walked away with all the awards it got and was so hyped. PULP FICTION does not live up to any such expectations. Supposedly cool it is just senseless banter most of the time, not really funny but utterly ridiculous, with sudden explosions of violence. If you're looking for a black comedy try THURSDAY - a supposed copy of the Tarantino-style, but far better than anything he made.

"Kill Bill" was either a disaster-in-the-making or a one of a kind hit -- a sprawling revenge flick that had to be cut in two and released separately. But director Quentin Tarantino serves up entertainingly mindless gore and twisted thrills in "Kill Bill Volume 1," a salute to homages.

Tragedy strikes the Bride (Uma Thurman) on her wedding day: The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (DiVAS) attacks and slaughters the guests, the groom, and wounds the very pregnant Bride herself. Her former boss/lover Bill (David Carradine) finishes the bloodbath by shooting the Bride in the head. But despite his efforts, she isn't dead.

A few years later, the Bride wakes to find that she has been in a coma for a few years, and has been ... Read More:

Kill Bill was the first Tarantino movie that was release in my time - I'm happy I got to see it when it came out as well - this film is no second rate copycat film in homage to kung fu cinema - it adds so much more.
The Bride (Uma Thurman) is seeking revenge on Bill and his assassination squad for trying to kill `The Bride' on her wedding day, and placing her into a coma for four years.
What makes this film so great (to me Volume 1 + 2 is one film split in half) is that for the first 90 mins we get 100% adrenaline, action that is pure grin inducing. The Crazy 88 scenes (even better on the Japanese uncut DVD release) are out of this world - its ultra violence at its height and also cinematic art that you don't get to see very often. ... Dolly Parton used to quip, "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap." The same could be said about Quentin Tarantino's Deathproof, a contemporary film post-produced to look like a low-budget grindhouse movie of the 70s. But the problem isn't the look of the film - it's the story, padded out with long scenes of dull dialogue that take you nowhere. A big disappointment.

Having watched this movie for the first time in ten years (yesterday-June '08), I was blown away by its brilliance and power. Lets get down to the brass tacks- this is a low-budget movie and it has the patina of a cheap amateur production. First movie from the big-chin Quentin Tarantino who came out of nowhere (i.e., a video store in Manhattan Beach, California) and turned Hollywood on its ear in 1992 with this breath of fresh air.

Reservoir Dogs has a fantastic unconventional structure, cleverly shuffling back and forth in time to reveal details about the characters-- experienced criminals who know next to nothing about each other.
From the start we know something has gone wrong, and the plan has blown up in the criminals faces. One ... Read More:

In Tarantino's third film, Pam Grier stars as Jackie Brown, who is arrested for bringing illegal money into the country which ultimately takes her into a case involving one of her close friends, gun dealer Ordell (Jackson).

Once again covering the crime genre, Tarantino brings the characters and plot to life with cutting edge direction, and specific writing in a great portrayal of the crime world.

A lot of crime films focus upon action and car chases at every possible opportunity but this crime drama exploits the more specific details of what gun dealers and police are like with the unnecessary action. In admiring the realism of this concept, it does last for the entire film with hardly any action and can trail off waiting for something big ... Read More:

Sin City is a stylish, violent, gripping movie - taken almost identically from Frank Miller's comic book you know what you are expecting and Sin City does not disappoint. Sexy beyond belief with Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and Brittany Murphy all dripping with sex appeal seldom seen in films, scantily clad and plain and simply gorgeous - it works for Sin City. That's before we mention the girls of Old Town.
Graphic, stylised violence of first class order - especially in Marv's story which is probably my favourite - always quick pacing, tough gritty and exciting with a story that'll keep you watching. Elijah Wood plays his role really well, much more convincing than as Frodo in LOTR.
If you like a slow paced, character driven movies without much violence then I doubt ... Read More:
