"V" the series Season 1(& only season)19 episodes, left behind the creative sensibility of creator Kenneth Johnson of the excellent "V" original mini series(2 parter) and the sequel "V - The Final Battle"(3 parter).

However as a kid growing up in the 80s the series was entertaining despite it's reused FX shots and soap opera drama aboard the mothership between Diana and Lydia, the love triangle btween Starchild Elizabeth, mother Robin & Kyle.

Unfortunately Mike Donovan & Juliet Parrish characters often took a back seat storywise but were involved fortunately in the action.

Departure of Michael Irinside mid-season as Ham Tyler was a big mistake.

However as 'camp' illogical ... Read More:

'The Champions' will forever be 'quintessentially' the 1960s - even the theme score marks that particular space in time - a time when both the 1960s and this way of making this type of great TV was sadly drawing to a close forever, and I suspect this was the only reason that 'The Champions' was to never return to our screens... Best known for being shown in 'The Midlands' on its first run - we would struggle to tune our old black and white TV set in order to 'pick it up'! This set of DVDs is of excellent quality, but it is unclear at times as to whether these have actually been 're-mastered' or simply have naturally survived well.

The series kicks off with a great episode that involves a Mission that also explains how the three ... Read More:

DVD : Highlander: Season 1 [1997] (REGION 1)NTSC (NTSC)
The first Highlander film is something of a favourite of mine but the sequels never lived up to the original. This TV series is another spin-off that retcons the events of the first movie and totally ignores the sequels. The series follows the adventures of Duncan MacLeod, an immortal from the same clan as Connor MacLeod just younger.

This first season of the series follows a rather episodic format with many of the episodes following a similar immortal-of-the-week style with little in the way of an overarching plot for the entire season. Having said this however, the majority of the episodes in the series display some good writing and are generally quite entertaining.

The main problem with the series though is that in many ways it has dated ... Read More:

This DVD is rated as PG which is well founded as the fourth episode is scary and will give children nightmares if watched before bedtime. This is not the film but a series based very losely on the classic book.
If you have seen ther first DVD or it on TV Black Beauty is owned by a loving family and has many adventres.
The pilot does show Black Beauty beaing abused but as you can tell Black Beauty is saved and finds a home and loving owners
Six episodes on one disc is a good amount and this series is the better than the book with a girl owning Black Beauty and not some stuck squire's son like in the book.

I used to watch this show faithfully as a child. We didn't get it here in the states until the early 80's and I loved it from the very start. Wonderful heartfelt stories with superb acting help teach children the valuable lesson of kindness. The beautiful english countryside helps lend a magical quality allowing you to easily escape to a distant time and place. I'm thrilled to see it available again and will surely be adding this jewel of a series to my DVD collection. Highly recommended!!

I got this DVD because I remember the TV series from the 80's with some fondness & figured that this would be a couple of episodes strung together to form a movie. In fact this disc contains 2 episodes (one of them is the pilot) playing one after the other complete with credits.

Extras - None, not even an "interactive menu". If you want to watch the second you have to fast worward through the first.

Picture quality - Imagine trying to see someone dressed in black in a dark room with your eyes closed. It looks as if the episodes have been transfered direct from a fan's 20 year old VHS tape complete with tracking lines, scratch marks, picture freezes, blurred colours and variable quality soundtrack.

Steed, Purdey, Gambit. A great combination. Action, espionage, quirkiness. Most of the ingredients for a good series.

The middle has dropped out of the mixture in the oven.

This series is a little soggy throughout. I have watched it several times and for some of the episodes that is certainly more than a little too much. What is missing is not just the quick witted repartit or even the sense of intellectual snobbiness that goes with some of the stories. I even thought that the story with Martin Shaw and future colleague Lewis Collins (of the Professionals) was not that much irony.

No, what was missing most to me was the lack of originality of the story. The Avengers reduced to the status of the very bureaucrats that they had sent up ... Read More:

I really thought that this film was a great piece of work, good story about two agents (who we all know)that are thrown back together after an absence of 15 yrs, good clean fun with two old hands and a very jealous current agent make this a film well worth watching
