What a crazy film! Not exactly wholesome family viewing - but mine enjoyed it! The vision of chicken boy and his drunk mum with her lover will stay with me for a long time! If you like the unexpected and bizarre you will enjoy this. And all the Elfmans in it! Great fun.

DVD : Modern Vampires [1998]
While this film will never be nominated for an oscar, it must be said that it is highly entertaining. In fact, of all the slightly strange vampire films that I've bought, just to see what they're like, this has got to be one of the best.
Most of the typical traditions of vampires are thrown out the window, but if you can disregard this, then you will get a good laugh from this film. Kim Catrall deserves special mention for her role, as she plays the part brilliantly. I actually found Rod Steiger quite annoying in this, but thats made up for by the really funny homies he has with him.
If you can pick this up cheap, its well worth a few quid.

DVD : Revenant [1998]
How could yet another modern reworking of the Dracula legend possibly hold my interest? The answer is simply that it does. The humour is unlike other contemporary horror spoofs, because you don't realise it is a pastiche. The darkly humorous jokes sort of filter into your unconscious highlighting the delicious irony of the plot as well as emphasising the film's underlying subversive nature: the film is anti-racist, anti-feminist, pro-feminist, anti-American dream but still maintains a pro-America feel. The action scenes vary from gory traditional vampire stuff to slick (bordering on slapstick) fight sequences. The comedy too varies along the spectrum: at the one end there are lowbrow sex gags and at the other, complex satires on society.
