In 1963 Paramount pictures released 'Fun in Acapulco', an amusing musical/comedy directed by Richard Thorpe, the same director of 'Jailhouse Rock' starring the King, Elvis Presley one of the greatest entertainers of all times.
On this box office hit, Elvis goes to Acapulco, works as lifeguard and sings a few memmorable songs, like the classic 'Bossa Nova Baby', and ' I think I' gonna like it here' or latin pop songs like, The Bullfigther was a lady', 'Mexico' and 'Marguerita '.
The dvd presents a good print of the film, showcasing it's beautiful photography and the sound was remastered to 5.1 D.D.

DVD : The Prisoner of Zenda [1937] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
David O. Selznick's 1937 version of Anthony Hope's oft-filmed and equally as oft-imitated warhorse The Prisoner of Zenda is often hailed as the best of many versions, and it's certainly a classic example of the genius of the Hollywood system in the Golden Age. With the plot so familiar even then - as with Gone With the Wind, Selznick was warned that the film would be a disaster, the producer betting successfully that the impending coronation of King Edward VII of Great Britain would create public interest for the Ruritanian romantic adventure - much of the strength is in the pitch perfect casting. Ronald Colman is a perfect Rudolf Rassendyl, charming, heroic and decent against all odds, the perfect gentleman but with a likeable sense of self-deprecating ... Read More:

I always believed that the early Elvis films were the best. He showed a raw edge and acting style which was similar to James Dean in those days. It is such a pity that his film career was ruined by making so many awful films in his later years, thanks to the idiotic manager of his Colonel Tom Parker who was more interested in his mega bucks than anything else.

Here, he plays a young singer Vince Edwards who is jailed for manslaughter after getting involved in a bar room brawl. During his months in prison, he learns a style of rock music from his mentor played by Mickey Shaughnessy. Upon his release, he meets by accident Peggy (Judy Tyler) who recognises his talent and sets him off onto the road to stardom. The rest, as they say, is history. Its ... Read More:

Remember this pair (Stewart Granger and Deborah Kerr) from King Solomon's Mines (1950)? Well they did it again with The Prisoner of Zenda (1952). There is all of the sward play and loyalty of the first version, plus the interaction and reaction of Stewart Granger and Deborah Kerr to add to this.
For those of you who may have missed the story King Rudolf V, who is not the nicest of guys is gets drugged out of the way. Because all Kings named Rudolf look like Stewart Granger, a vacationing Englishman, who happens to be a long lost cousin, he gets to substitute for the stability of the country and to foil the bad guys (his half-brother Michael, Duke of Strelsau (Robert Douglas) form taking over. DVD : Ivanhoe [1952] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Ivanhoe is easily the most glorious of MGM's British swashbucklers made with blocked funds designed to beat a short-lived embargo on US films being shown in the UK. It's also one of many roles intended for Stewart Granger that instead ended up revitalizing Robert Taylor's career by default. He's not exactly the perfect choice for the part, but he does well enough even if he is outshone by George Sanders de Bois Guilbert, hopelessly in unrequited love with nice Jewish girl Elizabeth Taylor who is herself hopelessly in unrequited love with Ivanhoe. Indeed, Sanders manages to make him both ruthless and still worthy of pity. That he does is as much down to the quality of ?neas MacKenzie's adaptation and Noel Langley and Marguerite Roberts' fine script, which strips away Scott's ... Read More:

DVD : Knights of the Round Table [1953] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE is a movie about the classic tale of King Arthur, Sir Lancelot and Guinevere. Lancelot's ill-fated love for Guinevere is played out against a background of cavalry charges, fierce battles and pageantry. The plot is amplified by the rivalry between Lancelot and Modred as well as Sir Percival's quest for the Holy Grail. Merlin appears in the film as an advisor to Arthur and Lancelot's wife dies while giving birth to the future Sir Gallahad.

Robert Taylor as Lancelot and Mel Ferrer as Arthur are both superb. Ava Gardner makes a beautiful Guinevere but her acting seems to be a little flat. The strong supporting cast includes Stanley Blake, Felix Aylmer and Robert Urguhart.

KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE received Academy Award nominations ... Read More:
