All the other reviews I have seen are by people who are either utterly fascinated by the movie, or who state their opinions on the different versions. Perhaps I stand out, but I don't really care about previous versions, and more importantly, did not find the film enjoyable at all. I may be and outsider here: I didn't attempt to look at the theme, the execution or anything. I just rented a movie, hoping to be entertained and possibly given something to think about. And for entertainment purposes, this isn't very good unless you are actually into sci-fi. It's quite confusing, and the story wasn't very engaging. It might just be too heavy, and requires too much commitment for me to feel it was worth the attention on a friday night.

The first two Alien films are amazingly good, & the rest are well worth watching but less excellent. This is a great collection & good value for money.

Good God! Russell Crow is one of my favorate actors, and I think this is his best film to date. With a superb supporting cast with the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, Oliver Reed, and Richard Harris. This is a tail of one mans quest to find the man who wronged him. Betrayed by his own emperor, the general turned slave turned gladiator must take on an empire to bring justice to his life.

I found the first 55 minutes a touch slow at times, but from there on I was glued to the film, based on the true story of Frank Lucas a drug lord in New York. Russell Crowe in particular is as usual in fine form, with a good performance from Denzel Washington too. I've been looking forwards to watching this film since I first heard about it and for me it does not disappoint, I've read on another review stating that the story is preditable, but this is after all a true story, how else are you supposed to portray a true story?, putting things in that did not happen?, after all with a film like this there's really only 2 or 3 ways that this could ever turn out anyway!! Fantastic film but make sure your tv doesn't try and iron out the grain. That's how it is suppose to be.

This (probably) beautiful film by one of my favourite directors was ruined by a musical score (yet again!) drowning out the dialogue. When will they learn less is more???

black hawk down is based on actual events thus it is quite fictional in many parts. also it is throughly biased in which you are made to feel sorry for the americans who get killed(only 18) while the somalies are made to be shown as sub-human(more than 1000 somalies lose thier lives). on doing research into the conflict in somalia i learnt that it also has to do with oil just like iraq. a 'good' war movie which pushes the american foreign policy and agenda. i would like to see a movie of black hawk down from the somalian side if that will be possible.

It seems like overkill. A five disc box set focused on a single film. Six different versions of the original film, plus an exhaustive array of extras - documentaries, commentaries, out-takes, interviews, concept art, screen tests. Surely only obsessives and the professionally interested could possibly want all this? But this isn't like other dvd sets. No dull, half-baked `documentaries' that tell you nothing more than star A thinks director B is a great director, Director B thinks star A is a top chap, and everyone thinks the guy who deputy managed Computer Effects Team C did a super job. Anthony Hopkins really makes this film worthwhile. Without his excellent performance this would no doubt have turned into a mess like "HANNIBAL RISING". The entire hype about extreme violence was totally bogus HANNIBAL relies more on the character of the serial killer than on gore FX (although there are some nasty FX indeed). The reason why this is BETTER than SILENCE OF THE LAMBS is because Hopkins gets more screen time. He is a brilliant actor. Thank God they good an good director here as well.
