This film seems to be one that people love or hate? Generally I dislike remakes as pointless exercises that are pale imitations of the (often better) originals e.g. The Grudge, Assault On Precinct 13, Gone In 60 Seconds. However if they add something to the original they can be worthwhile.
The original Halloween is an absolute classic horror film and the grandfather of the slasher genre. What Rob Zombie does with his version is to give us an insight into Michael Myers, that is absent in the original. The therapeutic relationship between Dr Loomis and Michael is emphasised and the obsession with masks that facilitates his withdrawal from reality. This relationship doesn't cloud Lumis' perception of Myers; he knows that he is evil incarnate, ... Read More:

Fancy making your life shorter by wasting some time on this little gem of a film? Yes? - Then there is no hope for you I'm afraid; just give up now. If the answer is no - well thats different. I watched this on the tv on saturday night and this film is simply awful. It had potential with the story and settings but threw it all away with non existent acting. Poor poor directing. Mis casting of good actors and a completly ruined blance between humour and horror. It just ends up being neither. But hey dont just take my word for it. I watched this with four of my friends and two got up and left the front room in the middle. One left leaving me on my own 10 minutes before the end of the film. And me for my sins watched the ending and went to sleep feeling ... Read More:

Violent, sadistic movie, without any redeeming features - didn't do anything for me. No, I lie. It gave me a lot of bad memory flashes. Switched it off quite quickly.
Nasty stuff.

I watched this film the other day, the 4th time I have seen it and it just gets better and better every time! Rob Zombie is a breath of fresh air in the Horror genre but having been a fan of his musical talents in both White Zombie and his solo material I was confident that his transition to directing horror would work, I dont agree with those who say the movie rips off Texas Chainsaw Massacre, there are elements of it in this film but I feel it only borrows slightly and on the whole is pretty original. The Firefly family are awesome, they are humourus and disturbing a perfect combination, in particular Captain Spalding and Otis are stand out and can be right up there with other classic horror charactors! The movie moves at a fast pace and the combination of old TV/film ... Read More:

DVD : Death Proof [2007] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
DEATH PROOF is an out-and-out dud, a film so profoundly dull, so relentlessly misguided, so criminally self-indulgent you almost feel bad wasting time criticising it.

The wafer-thin plot revolves around a mysterious Stuntman Mike who roams bars car looking for nubile victims to run over in his "Death proof" car. And his favourite prey is beautiful young women in hotpants and bare feet.
Apparently, Tarantino was inspired by the cheap films shown in low grade (Grindhouse) cinemas in the 1960s and '70s in the USA.
The only action in Death Proof arrives in a brief slaughter halfway through and in a silly car chase in the last 20 minutes.
That leaves 90 minutes of exceptional dullness as Mike's victims-to-be sitting around talking garbage. And it ... Read More:

i am a huge fan of the "from dusk till dawn" movies, tarantino & rodriguez
are an amazing talent of directors.this film look liked a sort of "dawn of the dead" meets "from dusk till dawn".dont get me wrong this film is full of action, horror & gore but the annoying "superimposed" scratches & frame skips got on my nerves. i know the director was trying to recreate the coolness of an old grindhouse movie but why not have 2 versions on the
dvd,1 version of the film with the scratches & frame skips,2 the version
without.its a backward step,we spend all this time remastering movies on dvd only to try to replicate an old grindhouse classic ? you decide.....

DVD : The Devil's Rejects [2005] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Though I am still a fan, I thought that sometimes House of 1000 corpses missed the mark. I am pleased to announce however, that devil's rejects is one of those rare movie sequels that manages to vastly improve on the original. The plot is relativly simple, after a police raid; the remaining members of the firefly family go on the run (enaging in a little torture and murder for kicks) while being pursued by Sherrif wydell, brother of the murdered cop in the first. I don't want to give anything away but i would happily reccomend this to any horror fan.
