I wont say much about the movies, everyone knows what they are about anyway. What I would like to say is -

The framing in this DVD version is CORRECT.
It has a DTS soundtrack.
Picture quality is the best ever seen.

Also, Amazon service is great!!! They shipped it on 26 Aug 2008 from the UK and I received it on the 31st in India. Great going Amazon.

Just wish the US site was this fast. They take a month to deliver!!!

I absolutely love this film! It kept me glued to the screen for the entire film, something which not many films have done to me before. You come to love every single one of the characters, especially Forrest, because of his determination through the whole film.

This film is so many categories, you couldn't fit it into one. It made me both cry and laugh, lots! Though the things that happen with the film are very unlikely, the way it is set out makes it surpisingly believable!

It tells a great story, and even now, 14 years on from when it was released, this is an amazing film for all kinds of people.

The plot has been well-summarised in other reviews, but hats off first to animator Richard Williams, the man who not only created the cartoon characters but made them interact so convincingly with the humans. Nowadays we take computer animation so much for granted it would be easy to underestimate the complexity and painstaking detail involved in not only reproducing so many well-loved cartoon characters but integrating them, and the original toon characters of the movie, frame by frame, 14 to the second, for the full 99 minutes. You only have to compare this with previous attempts like Gene Kelly's dance with Jerry the Mouse in "Anchors Aweigh" Anchors Aweigh [1945] (REGION 1) (NTSC)], or the Sinbad sequence in "Invitation to the Dance" (currently ... The 'motion capture' is utterly pointless. Why not just use the actors as usual; you've filmed them anyway! It just proves a distraction in what is a very dull film. The miscasting and modern dialect ensure that the film comes over as a complete mess.

This is one of my favourite films. The cast are obviously enjoying being in it as well which makes it nice to watch. There's some wonderful barbed dialogue and the performances are (while maybe a little broad at times) excellent. The reason this gets 4 stars and not 5 is the DVD itself.

It's only a bare bones release. There are a lot of deleted scenes from the film (including an entire subplot featuring Tracey Ullmann) that were cut out! In fact if you look up the trailer (youtube etc) for the film some of these scenes can be seen. Making it extremely frustrating that they are not included here.

In this world of "Special Editions" and constantly repackaged DVD's can't somebody at the marketing department suggest a re-release of ... Read More:

My brother warned me not to watch this film, so to annoy him I watched it with him. Overall it's well made with good acting and enjoyable. Theres a point in all films like this, that you start trying to guess whats going on. I started throwing suggestions at my brother with everyone came the reply "no it's not as good as that". This carried on untill the end when I could not believe what I saw. This film builds and builds only to ultimately dissapoint. I've warned you about the ending. If your at all cynical stay away, if pap is what your after lap some of this up.

Now you wouldn't believe me if I said this, but I think Jewel of the nile is the better of the two. Why? You are asking. Romancing the stone is great, but lacked the action then it did with the romance. Yes, Romancing the stone was too romantic for me, still enjoyed it though. Jewel of the nile however is quite different, there is a bit of romance, but it has more comedy and action.

So, do see both films, but don't expect to much from Romancing the stone if you're an action type.

The majority of this film is a good one- Hanks can usually be relied upon to turn in a good performance and here he turns in a compelling one, managing to convey palpable emotion with very few words. Towards the latter end of the film the sense of suspense and heartbreak leaves you on the edge of your seat, but all expectations are let down by the ending. The fact that it wasn't the ending most would have been hoping for isn't really what bothered me; it was the way in which what had been a very touching and genuine film suddenly became incredibly sickly-sweet in one scene which seemed to badly paraphrase a Hank's speech in 'Sleepless in Seattle'. The moment was utterly ruined for me.
