Coming off some rather poor reviews, I expected failure from this movie, and the first ten minutes delivered all the fail I anticipated. After that, it drastically improved, and while it didn't succeed as an epic, it was very lively and highly imaginative. Starting with the bad, most of the dialogue just plain sucks. It's great that they tried to make the people sound simple, being this is 10,000 BC, but the kids (D'leh and Evolet) had these really painfully Arab-esquire accents and awkward dialogue reminiscent of Attack of the Clones Padme and Anakin. I'm almost embarrassed that I thought it was good when I was a kid. Because I was too young to understand the bad points and let's face it, we don't have high demands of quality when we are young. I thought power rangers had good acting then... riiight moving swiftly on. Anyway I watched it again a year or so ago when it was on TV and realised just how innocent I must have been. Not only is this film crap, but its pro American theme that is used to carry the story really made me cringe... HARD. Its like a serious version of Team America. I already owned this film on DVD and loved it. I bought the Blue-ray edition to get even more out of such a great film. What Amazon don't tell u is that this edition is an edited version which in reality is 9 minutes shorter than my DVD version. My one star rating is purely based on another money spinning project....... no doubt in a year or so we'll get the Blue-ray Directors cut coming out. Unfortunately for me i couldn't return it as I never watched it as soon as it arrived.

This 1993 film is one of the few films not made in Hi-def to make the grade by being transferred onto Blu-Ray. Colours glow as does the overall detail of the sets and costums. The sound track in DTS HD is excellent. If only all transfers were up to this standard.

never let the facts get in the way...... Especially, when your name is Mel Gibson, and you have an axe to grind (sic) Good yarn told in the typically American sentimental style, but with well crafted battle scenes and cinematography. The prisoner exchange scene, for me, was a major flaw (and hence corrupted the storyline) The top British commander would not be fooled into releasing his prisoners without seeing his own men alive and crossing over simultaneously. It has made me want to brush up my history on this subject.

Back in ancient Giza a large circular artefact is buried under some capstones. Later in the 1920s an archaeological dig uncovers the 'stone' ring and various items of jewellery all dedicated to the Egyptian sun god Ra. Then in the 1990s, Dr Daniel Jackson, a radical Egyptologist who is widely disbelieved by the academic community is co-opted into a project run by the USAF, a project researching the large ring. Jackson with his differing interpretation of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs rapidly solves the problem of the ring showing it to be a transportation device, a Stargate. I rented this movie on blue ray and I think its a great movie on blue ray disc, the landscape scenery and special effects are really good. A bit like Lord of the Rings/Apocalypto, but the story line isnt as intense. However its an easy watch and good for passing some time. I would give it higher rating if the story line was better, but I wouldnt class it as rubbish or boring at all. Give it a try!
