During excavations of Hob's Lane underground station, a mysterious object is discovered. The army led by the stubborn Colonel Breen(Julian Glover) believe it to be an unexploded bomb, Professor Bernard Quatermass isnt so sure, especially when he starts to dig into the history of the surrounding area, with reports of apparitions and other paranormal activity. Then the object cracks on the inside, and Quatermass's fears are proved right...
This is a marvellous film, Hammer at the peak of their creative powers, assured direction by Roy Ward Baker, an excellent cast, and of course Nigel Kneale's inventive story coming to life. Its the Origin of the Species given an unearthly twist, with long dormant race memories resurfacing as the strange ... Read More:

This is the definitive film, taken from the definitive book, about the sinking of RMS Titanic. As the "making of..." points out, Walter Lord researched the disaster for twenty years before publishing his book. As a result almost everything is correct.

I can only find two innaccuracies: As another reviewer points out, the ship does not break in this version, as the official report at the time took only Lightoller's account as fact. At the time the ship broke he was held underwater by the suction, only released from by the blast when the icy water reached the boilers. The only other inaccuracy is that the band did not play "Nearer my God to Thee". They were part way through "Autumn", which has a similar tune, when the ship lurched ... Read More:

Bram Stoker's Dracula --Superbit [1993]

Hi Guys & Gals, The Vampire Lovers is based on Sheridan Le Fanu's very famous work,'CARMILLA'! THE VAMPIRE LOVERS, LUST FOR A VAMPIRE and TWINS OF EVIL form part of a TRILOGY released by the famous HORROR MAKERS of YESTER-YEAR,'HAMMER FILMS'. Ingrid Pitt portrays Carmilla in 'The Vampire Lovers'.Do any of you know, that she also acted in a Richard Burton - Clint Eastwood, adaptation of Alistair Mclean's WW2 Bestseller, 'WHERE EAGLES DARE'? In the other two films in the trilogy, I really missed Ingrid Pitt. So,as soon as possible, order the three movies and enjoy.

Granted it's not "Horror of Dracula" or "Dracula: Prince of Darkness", But this has to one of the best because Christopher Lee has more to do in this one than in any of the others, He has more screen time than in the first film. I like this one also because Dracula has some cool moments in the film such as branding poor Patrick Troughton's back with a red hot sword. This film deserves another look, Christopher Lee dispite his low opinion of the film has more dialogue and screen time than in the early ones or the later ones.

Great Film

I first saw this film about 6 years ago, and I was very, very surprized at how wonderful it is. The story, the writing, and performances are all brilliant. Bette Davis excels at being a 1st rate monster, and has all the other players humbled before the evening is over.

This has to be one of Davis' finest films, and because it is British, makes it even more fascinating to watch. There is some comedy in it too. Thoroughly recommended film to watch.

An extravagant claim but one I'm gonna endeavor to back up.
'Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires' is the last horror picture Peter Cushing made for Hammer, and is magnificent. He plays Van Helsing, (yes.. honest!) and to his eternal credit he looks believably close to tears every time he utters an emotionally-charged line like "In Europe it is the crucifix, in Asia; the image of the Lord Buddha".
I adore Peter Cushing anyway, and to see him in any film is good for me, but to see him in a work of this magnitude and gravitas is a real treat. He must be lying there now, thinking about his 50-odd year career, each performance building up to "My knowledge is restricted to the Western Hemisphere". Strangely, there's not much in his autobiography about 'LOT7GV' ... Read More:

OK, so it's not scary...OK, so it's camp as hell but you just have to love the idea! Martine Beswick is awesome (as one reviewer has already said)as well as extremely sexy as Sister Hyde. Ralph Bates (RIP) is great as the tormented Doctor. Some classic Hammer moments in this film which I won't spoil for you...please just BUY IT! Downside is the AWFUL song that some prostitute sings on 'n off throughout the night scenes in Whitechapel...I ended up wishing she'd run into Sister Hyde just to she'd shut her up for me!...but that's a small failing and it doesn't detract from the fact this is a later day Hammer classic. If you enjoyed Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter, you'll like this too. Just don't expect to be frightened!

The first question I had to ask myself upon viewing this movie on DVD was why has it been issued with a "15" certificate? I was always under the impression that this was an attempt to produce a horror movie that could appeal to kids and adults. In fact I remember watching a feature about the making of this movie on the ITV children's programme Clapperboard when I was only about 11 or 12 years old! There is no explicit sex or nudity in this film, no obscene language and no graphic violence so the "15" certificate is baffling to me. I have seen PG and 12 certificate movies with stronger content than this one!

Anyway, onto the film itself... The first thing that struck me about this movie was the impressive cast list. There are three great horror stalwarts in ... Read More:

PLEASE NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS FOR 'THE VAULT OF HORROR' ONLY:

A collection of tales where five men who committed evil during their lifetime spend an eternity re-telling their stories each night. Interesting stories, though two of them feature a little 'black comedy' thrown in for good measure!

Daniel and Anna Massey play side by side as brother and sister (as in real life of course) and they certainly seem to have enjoyed it! This movie has a galaxy of stars, including; Terry Alexander, Tom Baker, Michael Craig, Denholm Elliott, Glynis Johns and Terry-Thomas.

This has not been re-mastered.
