Convoy is a tale of three truckers who defy a corrupt backwater sheriff and end up becoming a national cause celebre. On the run from the authorities, they cross several states and in doing so gather huge support - eventually leading to a horizon full of trucks in their wake.

The film is watchable and fun at times. It wouldn't win any awards, but it did have a long-lasting social appeal as it played a part in popularising CB radio in the UK (thus ushering in the era of silver rods on every second council house across the land).

The film is peppered with CB jargon. It also has an all star soundtrack - such as Kenny Rogers, Crystal Gayle, Billie Jo Spears, Merle Haggard and Glen Campbell (however, in practice, the music ... Read More:

Peckinpah made few bad films and this one is no exception. The Russian front of WW2 an ideal setting for his particularly visceral style of filmmaking. The setting is shortly after the Germans major reverse at Stalingrad. The tide of the war had changed and Hitler was facing Stalins vast red tide that would push them all the way back to Berlin. It was a brutal withdrawl, the Russians only too eager to exact vengeance for earlier German atrocities. The Eastern front was a huge factor in the defeat of Nazi Germany. A front sadly neglected by Western film makers. All to the credit of Peckinpah that he chooses this setting for his powerful anti war movie.
The story revolves around the enigmatic Sgt Steiner and his closely knit platoon of men. The cameraderie ... Read More:

I have a region 1 version of this film and it last 136 minutes. I have never tried to read between the lines on any film, it should be about enjoyment rather than how good the director is or how the character's are defined.

If you enjoy a good western then you will probably enjoy this one, excellent performances from Harris and Heston, with good support from Coburn, a reasonable plot and the usual femalle interest.

A film I have watched many times and have always enjoyed.

A lot more than just a rape scene

I remember seeing Gordon Williams on the South Bank show discussing his writing method. Straw dogs or siege of Trenchers farm has been his most successful book. He was a journalist and has produced 20 novels. When asked how he makes ends meet he said " I type faster" in his strong Scottish accent. I have always thought that was a good attitude towards work, do more of it. Unfortunately his fast typing has not brought him such success as Straw dogs.

It only seems to be famous for the rape scene even now over 37 years later when we have had to endue all sorts of sex scenes in films.

It is a pity that the critics only concentrate on that aspect of the film. It reminded me of The Wicker Man in the opening ... Read More:

"Its time we started thinking beyond our guns, those days are closing fast," muses Pike (William Holden) shortly after the bloodiest shootout in cinema history. The shootout was the result of a botched robbery attempt, and it soon descended into chaotic carnage where Pike and his titular Wild Bunch are forced to shoot their way out of an ambush, killing a good portion of civilians in the crossfire.

This classic movie was released in 1969 in response to the hugely successful gay western `Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'. Butch Cassidy's huge success at the box office essentially green lit the way for Sam Peckinpah's vision of a changing wild west in The Wild Bunch.
It would be a travesty to think about The Wild Bunch in terms of its violence; it is a much better movie ... Read More:

Simply excellent. I loved most of Peckinpah's work. I do not wish to judge his character but most of his films (THE GETAWAY, PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID, STRAW DOGS and this one) are certainly some of the best films in movie history. Warren Oates on his way to ruin was an excellent choice for the lead role. Great directing - as usual - great acting and a sinister dark humor throughout the film make BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA a great neo-westen.

I saw PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID the first time more than 10 years ago on TV. Finally I own this masterpiece on DVD. Far better than anything starring John Wayne, this is my absolute favorite western. There are no heroes in this film - in the end EVERYBODY loses. Both, Kris Kristofferson as Billy the Kid and James Coburn as Pat Garrett deliver stunning performances. Bob Dylan has a supporting role and provided the superb sountrack. Packinpah's direction - as always - is outstanding. The best Wetsren of all times. The DVD contains 2 versions of the film. I prefer the "Turner Version".

This 1972 movie directed by Sam Peckinpah and starring Steve McQueen as Doc McCoy and Ali MacGraw as his wife gets played on my dvd player regularly when i get boozed up. It is essentially the tale of a recently-sprung convict who must perform a bank robbery to pay back a character named Beynon who has pulled strings to spring him from prison. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong in this perfect robbery so we have this genre film that never slows up.

The film (penned by Walter Hill), however, is also about a marriage, its ups and downs, what can go wrong, how a cuckolded husband handles his wife's infidelity. .etc. Certainly the best thing in the movie is McQueen's usual understated performance. While he is not Marlon Brando, he doesn't have to be. A man of few words, he acts with both his face ... Read More:
