crazy, colourful, hard to follow,,all terms read about this film prior to purchase..in my opinion these are all true, but this doesnt make it a bad film. Not all manga reveals itself at the first watch...fans of ghost in the shell could agree to that. The actual story is not too hard to follow, but because of the top quality animation and visual candy being thrown about,,dreams intermingling with reality,,then at first view you could miss some details. All in all i enjoyed this film and would recommend
it,,it reminded me of 'spirited away' crossed with 'ghost in the shell,,a futuristic sci fi cop show but with mad and colourful visuals...enjoy..I only marked it down as it might not be everyones cup of tea..

Before a more detailed review, I'll state these things for the quick Amazon browser:

1. This film is beautiful. The backgrounds are fantastically painted, the characters look and show expressions far more realistically than most anime, and there is a great deal of visual variation due to the range of scenes represented.

2. It's a heart wrenching love story.

3. It has an astounding soundtrack.

4. There's even a ninja swordfight.

5. It's an absolute steal at its current price.

I wasn't expecting much, but it offers the best human story in any animations I've seen. The animation is not great, I think it added the touch of realism to the film. Do see it if you are looking for a good touching story about human relations.

I agree that this is no jolly ghibli like experience but then who says that all anime must be. This is a truly deep and dark delve into the human mind in a way that is relevant and very brave. The artistry and overal structure of the film is sublime and as a live action would have won acclaim, yet animate it and people get very uncomfortable. The disturbing moments that do dipict rape are very much fundimental to the reasoning of character development and are not i believe the whim of a director trying to shock. If you can stick with this film and open your mind to see the truth of this film you will be greatly rewarded by what I consider to be the bravest anime out there. You will have to watch a few times to grasp the whole picture of the storyline but thats a bonus ... Read More:

This is a very high-class article.

The plot is intriguing, taking off in a quite unexpected direction less than half way through. The characterization is likewise excellent and remarkably plausible in the way the characters react to some extremely strange events indeed.
Visually the series is a delight, and the individual proponents are much more differentiated and individual than in most anime. There are some real coups de theatre as the style unexpectedly changes radically in response to plot developments.

The 18 rating is very much appropriate. There is not so much overt sex and violence as very explicit treatment of some very dark subjects. (This is a work in which an episode featuring a suicide pact which includes a young schoolgirl ... Read More:

There's something decidedly dark and disturbing about Paranoia Agent. At first you don't know quite what it is, but it sure creeps under your skin and pokes you in the brain long after you finish watching it.

For example, the opening theme sounds like a joyful little tune, but there's something wrong with it. Partly as we see the various characters laughing at the camera...standing on the ledge of a skyscraper, knee deep in floodwater or dropping from a plane. Then we realise what the lyrics are actually saying (see above).

The series itself also probes some dark corners, set out in these first four episodes. The plot, to boil it down to the base elements, concerns the mass panic concerning Lil' Slugger, a youth on roller-skates that ... Read More:
