the second season of the shield starts 4/5 weks after the first season ended. vic mackey's personal life is falling apart as his wife has disappeared with the kids!!! this season sees major changes for all the characters and some new faces on both sides of the fight. throughout the season the strike team are trying to get their hands on their "retirement" fund, which is mostly dodgy dealings which they are known best for. great writing, great acting and the real life feel is still there!!!

Children of the Stones is a classic example of edgy and thought-provoking drama aimed at young people but intelligent enough to appeal to everyone. Its compelling plot and eerie atmosphere places COTS firmly up there with the likes of the marvellous Owl Service and Noah's Castle. Furthermore, set against the hugely evocative backdrop of the Avebury stone circle (and a few shots around West Kennet long barrow and Silbury hill) and with such accomplished actors as Gareth Thomas and the masterful Iain Cuthbertson, COTS is an uniquely satisfying experience.

I loved it when I first watched it as a young teenager and loved it today!

All seven episodes are presented in excellent picture quality and clear, but obviously mono, sound. ... Read More:

Summary:Yet Another Major Disappointment.......

The one star awarded this release applies not to "The Onedin Line" per se - one of the finest productions ever released by the Beeb.
BUT - Other than the inferior S1-S4 Netherlands productions, no other studio is willing to commit further than S1.
When this COMPLETE S1 version was produced in APRIL 2007 I purchased it as it FINALLY appeared that we could expect better treatment and that further series up to and including S8 might reasonably be expected.
NOT SO - I now possess FOUR DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF S1 - I contacted 2 Entertain Video Ltd/BBC Video and was advised that there are NO PLANS to release further S2-S8 - even as a one off boxed set (which presumably would be cheaper ... Read More:

I heartily recommend both series of this remarkably fine comedy.

You can get the details from the many other approving reviews here on the Amazon site, so I'll confine myself to mentioning a few extra points.

First, the acting is unusually good. The ensemble playing is strong. The characters have real depth. It's unfair to single anyone out for special praise in such a fine cast, but I can't resist drawing your attention to three standouts. Callum Blue's hilarious portrayal of the flawed, feckless, vulnerable, lovable Mason just gets better and better. Right up there with it is Cynthia Stevenson's perfectly judged, evolving performance as the perplexed, grieving, stoical, bereaved Joy Lass. And who could forget Christine Willes' realisation ... DVD : Chappelle's Show: Season 1 - Uncensored (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I had caught snippets of Chappelle's Show here and there before, but I had never made a point of actually sitting down and watching a complete episode. Then a friend of mine told me about a hilarious skit featuring Dave Chappelle as a black white supremacist (he is blind and doesn't know he is actually a black man); if it was only half as funny as she said it was, I knew I had to see it for myself, so I soon bought myself a copy of Chappelle's Show Season One. Not only is the skit in question hilarious, it basically defines the type of humor Dave Chappelle brings to the comedy scene. I don't think the television viewing audience has ever seen anything like this before - certainly not to the extremes that Dave Chappelle takes it. When he jokes about the fact the show has not been ... Read More:

From the sane people that brought you "The Fast Lady", here is another British comedy classic!
Stanley Baxter is great of course, but the real star here is the magnificent James Robertson Justice. The man lights up the screen with his booming presence and yes, he does bellow "Nincompoop!" at some poor individual in this film too!

Classic moment is his hefty slap on the backside as a morning alarm call for poor old Stanley Baxter (Dexter).

Sadly no extras, but good sound and picture and the original trailer. Fans of decent British comedy, the type they no longer make, will love this gem. Also features a young Ronnie Barker.

I agree with all those who love this set. It's brilliant."Night Creatures", however, is not really a horror film, more a costume drama, with Peter Cushing and Oliver Reed as 18th Century smugglers. It was originally released as a second feature to "Phantom of the Opera",(also in this collection),under the title of "Captain Clegg". It's actually a pretty faithful adaptation of Russell Thorndyke's novel "Doctor Syn".This may be of use to those who didn't recognise the American title.

Well I could vaguely remember the 'labyrinth' part of the title, which got me here, and absolutely amazed to find it. I must have been about 10 years old when I watched this and I still remember "a second can be a very long time".

Strange memories of this a bit like "Sapphire and Steel" for my peers as well I think.Well done to those people who have got around to releasing it, only 24 years after it first aired on TV!
Can't wait for it to land on the doormat.
