Night of the Eagle doesn't seem to get shown on television very much, which is really strange as its a cracking supernatural thriller. Peter Wyngarde (remember Department S?) stars with Janet Blair as Norman and Tansy Taylor. Its made clear right from the outset of the film that Norman is a sceptic and doesn't believe in the supernatural. Unfortunately Tansy does and is heavily involved in it.

The film was clearly influenced by Night of the Demon and it very nearly matches that film in most respects: The lighting and sound are excellent, its only 84mins long, so there really isn't a wasted minute, and the two leading performances are memorably good. Perhaps the only area where its a little weaker than Night of the Demon is the absence ... Read More:

What a great discovery this film turned out to be.
Never heard of it. Took a chance. Bingo.
Earthy Newcastle locations, fabulous b/w photography, great pace, wonderful performances and a fine, realistic script.
Director Sidney Havers went on to direct many of the best episodes of THE AVENGERS.
The DVD transfer is close to HD. On a 40" HD TV it looks so sharp and the greyscale tones are deep and beautiful.
This one makes me curious about the quality of other Optimum DVD releases.
Shame there is no trailer. Would have been cool to see how this gem was pitched, but the bottom line is, this is one terrific feature on a marvelous digital transfer that MUST have been taken from the original negative to make it look this ... Read More:

A fantastic day has arrived at long last. "Arthur of the Britons" available to watch whenever I like! Back to the days of my middle childhood when the long walk from school could not go quickly enough, switch on the TV and get ready to watch. The DVD of the 2 series has not disappointed. It is still as fresh and excitibg as it was in the early 70s. The cast capture a realistic impression of what life must have been like for the Celts. Nothing is spared. It is only looking at it again that I realise it was quite adult in some of the themes and scriptwriting. A delight to be able to watch again and again. I promise you'll always come back to it quite regularly.

This is a great early sixties schlocker starring the always reliable Anton Diffring as a morally corrupt plastic surgeon obsessed with 'perfecting his technique', regardless of who and what gets in his way. Once accepted, the circus setting doesn't seem quite as far fetched as one might think and provides a few grisly opportunities for a bloody death here and there, the knife throwing piece being the best. On a par with mid range Hammer (which is still pretty good) and filled with some wonderfully warped characters, its well worth having if you're a horror fan of the period and like films of the Friday Night variety.

DVD : The Avengers : The Definitive Dossier 1967 (Box Set 2)
This box set is even better than the first. It contains some smashing episodes of my favourite series of all time. In "The Living Dead" Emma gets imprisoned in an underground city but escapes just in time to rescue Steed. The marvellous episode "The Hidden Tiger" is also included in this set. It's absolutely a five star episode in which cats can be turned into ferocious wild animals by remote control. The school for gentlemen from "The Correct Way to Kill" is also absolutely a highlight in the Avengers Series. In "Never, Never Say Die" Christopher Lee gets run down by a car twice. "Epic" is, just like "The Joker" (not included on this set), one of those episodes I most fondly remember. It's a wonderful Emma Peel episode in which see makes a movie whether see likes ... DVD : The Avengers : The Definitive Dossier 1967 (Box Set 3)
This is the third smashing box set of "The Avengers" first colour season. And I have to say it's a great one. Sound quality is good considering this series were made more than three decennia ago. But the episode "Return of the Cybernauts" features some nasty distortion (probably a Dolby digital encoding error). Picture quality is good. Picture is sharp and colours are bright. The extras include a wonderful picture gallery. But I still find the "Follow That Hat" feature a little disappointing. All in all this is a worthy addition to your collection!

"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Station" is a nice homage to train mysteries such as Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes". The plot maybe thin but this episode is quite enjoyable with a good eccentric John ... Read More:

Avengers 1967 Box Set 4:
This is the last box set of "The Avengers" first colour season. Again it's a great joy to see these lovely episodes again. Although it looks as if they can't avoid the little distortions or encoding errors, sound quality is good considering the series were made in the late sixties. The episode "The Positive-Negative Man" two times suffers from minor splats in the audio. This minor imperfection is also present in "The Forgot-Me-Knot." Overall picture quality is all right, but the image sometimes shows some scratches. I don't think it's disturbing, it merely adds a touch of nostalgia. Picture is sharp and colours are clear. The extras include a wonderful picture gallery and an introduction to Linda Thorson (Tara King). But don't expect too ... Read More:

Well, Im still waiting for the classic episodes such as REDWOLF, but we get some mediocre episodes on this dvd. The story lines are good but somehow the action in less than happening, only a few good sequences in 'The American dream'. I am aware that there are loads more episodes on vhs, but they need to bring them out faster on dvd!!
Overall good for the collection but certainly not as good as volume 3!!

Well, Airwolf vol. 3 features more action from the brooding Hawke, the cuddly Santini and my favourite helicopter, Airwolf.

I could complain that the various DVD releases feature episodes out of sequence but seeing as some episodes are better than no episodes at all, I will ignore that.

The first episode on the DVD is 'Moffett's Ghost', an absolutely gripping episode. I'll backtrack for a minute. In the pilot episode, Airwolf's creator-a Dr. Charles Moffett-designed Airwolf and then went mad and went to Libya. Hawke and Satini travelled to Libya, took Airwolf and killed Moffett. Everythings okay, right? Wrong! It would seem that Moffett had programmed a virus into Airwolf which would be triggered if Airwolf didn't receive a code after several months. ... Read More:
