Why did I not hear about this film when it was out on cinema?
AT LAST......some original scripts. One of the cleverest films I have seen in a long time, and is mentally stimulating.
If you like "shoot em up's" avoid it. If you want a quality original film, snap Amazon's hand off at it's current price. UNDERVALUED.

What I like, is quality films lose their value quickly (suits ME) and rubbish "shoot em up's" hold their price better. If you want the latter, buy a Playstation.

I am inspired by the story of Malcolm X. Here is a man that did make a difference. He is a true example of bravery.

His story is well told by Spike Lee. Its strange why Alex Haley (the author of Malcolm's autobiography of which the film is based) does not appear in the film at all given the close working relationship between Malcolm and the author so near the end of his life. Regretably the UK released version of the film has no real extras. A commentary and a few good documentaries on the man would help.

However the whole film is good from start to finish and does well to show the development of Malcolm from troubled youth to national champion. The last 15 to 20 minutes is so moving as Malcolm who gave so much for his people ... Read More:

While much focus under reviews of the movie has been on Spike Lee's involvement in the film of the book and use of the post 11/9 setting, this in large part overlooks that the movie started with the great asset of a well written novel with a unique and timely story. In addition the using of the author David Beniofff to also write the screenplay seems to have ensured that much of the book's strengths were not lost in the transition to the screen.

Despite the few sops made from the book to Hollywood storylines (an over emphasis on did the girlfriend betray the lead character now destined for 7 years in jail and the resultant conversion of the ending), there is much to admire in the movie especially in tracking the story mix of the course of the ... I defy anyone to watch this terrific documentary and not feel righteous anger and disgust towards those who treat human life with such contempt, the politicians who maneuver for points over their rivals, the sheer incompetence of political administrations in general and Bush in particular, while the citizens - and taxpayers - they supposedly represent are dying. I'm writing this review half-way through the four hours and could easily watch the remaining dvds straight through if only it wasn't getting late and I have to go to work!

It seems almost irrelevant to point out that this is great filmmaking, given the suffering of the protagonists, but great it is.

Watch it, but be prepared for your blood to boil!

While some people find Spike Lee's filmic style a little too "in your face" at time, it is impossible to deny that he has extraordinary talent as both screenwriter and director after watching his best movie, Do The Right Thing (1989). With its cast completely on form, each person gives an electrifying performance, directing that enables us to empathise with every character and brillinatly juxtaposes ultra realism with surrealism, and a script that is both halarious and though provoking, Do The Right Thing is a brilliant movie, both entertaining and thought provoking, that should be viewed by everyone. Featuring on many top 100 film polls, Do The Right Thing is without a doubt one of the best movies of the 1980s and one of the best new york movies ever made.

I'm a big fan of comedy of all kinds. Whether it's the classics like Chaplin or Laurel & Hardy to the crude and loud comedians like Billy Connolly, Al Murray, Eddie Murphy, etc. BUT I do feel that Steve Harvey and in particular Bernie Mac are hysterically funny. The other two comedians in the show are alright, but the sign of a GOOD comedian is not what jokes you tell but how you tell them and I have to say that I have laughed out loud when watching shows before, but I've never felt actual pain through sheer laughter before ... and it was fabulous. Steve Harvey is very funny because he KNOWS how to tell a joke and with his 'country ass' accent it's inevitable to laugh at him. Bernie Mac, to me, is the funniest comedian on the planet, hands down, (just by watching this show alone) ... Read More:

I'd been keen to see this for some time and was disappointed with the end result after viewing. It was a weak story and all the characters appeared to be disjointed which always annoys me! Its not the actual events that make me want to rate it lowly because I'm very interested in the true case, its just the way the way the story is set out to an audience. John Leguizamo portrays a realistically sleazy love-rat, constantly cheating on his wife whenever he feels like it. I cannot come to terms with him in any serious role afte seeing him in Moulin Rouge as a dwarf which is a shame!

This is Spike Lee's first feature film and it is excellent. The production is shoe-string cheap, but the homemade feel to it works perfectly with the story he wants to tell. That story is about Nola, who is being sought after by three very different men and one woman, each of whom wants Nola as their possession. The style is mock-documentary, in a sense. Characters often turn and address the camera and seem to be recalling events and experiences. Other times, the action is in the present and the style is simply a shot scene. The film revolves largely around the rivalry between the three men and Nola's increasingly strenuous efforts not to become caged. The rivalry between the men and the woman is not as fully developed, except between one of the men and the woman. It's all very good, ... Read More:

An absolutely wonderful show which - like many others - was disconnected after two seasons only. Somebody please explain why?

This is of course a one man show (often happens with James Woods movies). The support cast looks rather humble, as some reviewer already mentioned but it is difficult to find somebody who would not pale next to Woods. A fierce personality indeed. According to his biography, Woods initially planned to become a fighter pilot. The Air Force obviously lost a top gun there but we got one of the best and one of the most underrated actors ever.

The dialogue is usually good, Woods one-liners brilliant, cases smart and interesting to watch. I loved the short leather jacket - a small ironic bow to The Hard Way and the Vampires. Very nice.
