Like Simono I too was disappointed by the Cinemascope. In fact we did not bother watching it as it only took up the centre third of the television screen.

Same with DVD of Guys and Dolls, like looking through a letter box. Did not watch that either.

Amazon should point out the significance of Cinemascope. We cannot be the only people to suffer with this.

Gene Kelly's famous song and dance sequence from the title has become a household name.Added to this a young Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor and you have a film that connects both musically and with dance sequences that are colourful and imaginative even today....Donald O'Connor's rendition of "Make em laugh" shows how superfit and talented he was...In the background of the silent movies the competition into talkies made the big studios have to pull out all the stops..This is a talented if not tongue n cheek look at those times....Kelly is masterful with the Broadway Melody sequence with Cid Charise dancing charisma to enhance the mood...."You are my lucky star" is one of many heart stopping hits to top the romance love tale that intertwines ... This is one of my favourite musicals of all time. I'm pleased to see that this latest version offers a choice of ratio as I am fed up with squinting at my old extra widescreen version. I shall be putting this on my wish list for Christmas! My daughter and I have been watching this film for years and just recently she spotted something odd. For trivia lovers everywhere, have a look at the scene where the brothers are pacing up and down while Millie gives birth to her baby upstairs. At the very back Ephraim is pacing up and down - except it isn't him but some random guy we've never seen before. Each time he stops pacing he is conveniently hidden by the stepladder so you can't see his face. Presumably, Ephraim took the day off and they dragged this ... Read More:

This is a great Doris collection. The only flaw being that Lucky Me is not in Widescreen (it was the first Cinemascope musical).
The Pajama Game allows us to see Doris' development from the early feel good musicals to more contemporary material. She is flawless throughout.

One of my favourite films of all time.I hate when people say it's dated, what do you expect, it was made over forty years ago. It,s a classic sixties movie. The soundtrack is also awesome, took me years to find it on CD and the album stands alone as a great piece of jazz. Pete and Dud, the bizness!!!

As Amazon list these reviews with all versions of the film for sale and as most of the reviewers of this film refer to the poor quality of the DVD transfer I just wanted to point out they are referring to the Optimum -region 2- version. The 20th Century Fox -region 1- version is a very high quality transfer in the correct ratio, the DVD also has an excellent commentary track from director Stanley Donen.

If you can't play region 1 DVDs on your player it's a tough call because although a great film, Hepburn's best ever performance in my opinion, the Optimum region 2 DVD is a disgrace. Maybe it's time to get yourself a region free player.

My 5 star rating is for the Fox region 1 version it would be 1 star for the Optimum region 2 version.

Would steer clear of this DVD release. Terrible picture and muffled sound makes for unpleasant viewing of this great film.

Wonderful movie with wonderful story, wonderful actors, wondurvel costumes and wonderful music from Henry Mancini. Sophia represent in this movie completely another side of her talent at movie making. The story interested me from first view and I fall in love. Definetly buy and watch!
