Fans of Doyle are sure to enjoy this DVD. In the best traditions of European cinema, it was clearly made with a modest budget and there are no household names in the cast. It is all the better for that.
It stays very close to the original story, so won't upset folk who have already read the book. Perhaps the only thing missing is the desperation and pathos in the book, which don't come over as intensely in the film. A really good laugh, though.

I originally had no intentions of watching this film let alone buying it, but then I got curious, so I picked it up for a couple of pounds.

I'm very pleased that I did, I think this gives a very good account of what happened or what may have happened in the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana.

There are excellent portrayals of The Queen (Dame Helen Mirren), Prince Phillip (James Cromwell) and Tony Blair (Michael Sheen), strangely enough there is very little screen time given to Prince Charles, which I found a little strange.

I was never a great fan of Princess Diana, nor for that matter Tony Blair, although it does not harp on about how "wonderful" Princess Diana was, it does grind on me a bit how much ... Read More:

Now this film did take me a while to warm up to. The first two times I tried to watch it I was rather bored, though whether this is because I'm a woman, I'm not entirely sure. However the third time I watched it all the way through, and it honestly blew my mind. Cusack's performance's in movies are generally underrated, but here he generates utter brilliance, so much so that he kind of ruined the book for me, as I kept hearing his American voice for an English character.

This film adaptation is possibly one of the best adaptations I have ever seen committed to film. Featuring a standout cast including John Malkovic, Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, Uma Thurman (in one of her first films) and Keanu Reeves, of those mentioned I would say that John Malkovic and Michelle Pfeiffer gave the best performances. Both are mesmerizing in their respective roles and the rest of the cast are also on form with Glenn Close relishing her part.

I also felt the production design and the costumes were top drawer and the direction from Stephen Frears was first class. He managed to get the feel for the period of the time, 18th Century France, to perfection and brought out some dazzling set pieces and excellent performances from his cast. It won ... Read More:

Based on fact, the film begins at the funeral of Mrs Henderson's late husband. Although holding it together for sake of appearances, she is clearly distraught and soon seeks refuge in her own company. Shortly afterwards, we see her discussing with a friend what it is that widows actually do with their time. Mrs Henderson is notified that widowed women are permitted to have hobbies, since they no longer have husbands to look after.

After disastrous attempts at charity work and other 'ladylike' things, it soon becomes apparent that Mrs Henderson is no ordinary lady. Mischievious and incorrigible, she has been shaped by her past and is determined to something worthwhile with her time. And it is on a drive through town that she first lays eyes on the Windmill Theatre. ... Read More:

I'm half way through watching Series 1 and have been happily transported to the past when I excitedly looked forward to Follyfoot. Over the years, I've fondly sung the half-remembered title music only to now realise that what I'd forgotten I've been making up as I went along! The series has obviously dated and I preferred to watch it on a smaller TV - it looked a bit sorry for itself on my 38" HD tv! But what a treat it is to watch - I'm enjoying the stories and scenery and relishing the storylines. I think that today's pony mad young brigade would enjoy it too. As soon as I've finished series 1, I'll be ordering Series 2.

It's gritty and it gives you a realistic view of London you'd perhaps rather not see. In reality, not many people really do carry Mulberry and Chloe bags. Instead, many of them clean floors for more pennies and sometimes they have to be prepared to let their bosses use their bodies for sex, the price they must pay for not having all of their immigration papers in orders. A virgin will end up having to give up her treasured virginity to a sleazy pig who can get her the fake passport she can no longer do without. Or she'll have to work in a sweat-shop, where her proprietor 'respects' her Islam faith by 'only' making her perform oral sex on him instead of vaginal sex. It's not pretty. Immigrants to our city, especially female ones, are exploited horribly and even fatally and used for laughably ... Read More:

It was made twenty years ago and a lot has changed but it tackles issues that really are still around - racism and homophobia and sexism. In fact I can't believe it was 20 years ago this was made - it really was groundbreaking - portraying positively a deep gay relationship at a time in the UK which was generally very homophobic in nearly all spheres - even the theatre! Daniel Day-Lewis is terrific in his role and any fan of his later work should really see this. It's a challenging film - life's not a bed of roses after all - but I love it because it is a "love conquers all" film. (And it's really quite funny too!)

The Snapper is one of those light-hearted movies thats easy to watch & even easier to enjoy.
The film is about a young Irish woman who is impregnanted by a much older neighbour.
This is a sweet film, that proves that not all Irish films are bad.
I would recommend this to women only, its a great one for a drunken night in with the girls!
