I bought this by mistake - instead of the slightly better known American version. I have watched hundreds of horror films, which compared to this, are mediocre at best. My friends are supposedly 'hard to scare' and have not been at all affected by the more modern horrors, to this film however, were screaming and hiding behind cushions. They needed to have a 'buddy' to go into the kitchen to get a drink, and to this day I believe they have not ventured up the stairs... Though the story jumps around and can be very confusing, this has to be one of the scariest films ever made. Particularly the boys mother crawling down the stairs - I have never been so freaked out in my entire life, and as my sitting room is at the bottom of the stairs...! ... Read More:

Another lousy botch by Hollywood. It seems the creativity well has become so dry that film makers are ever increasingly snapping up classic movies from other cultures and failing miserably to comprehend what made them successful the first time around. Cinematic arse gravy of the worst kind.

I bought this film because I loved "The Grudge" and found it absolutely terrifying. This sequel didn't live up to my expectations at all. It has no plot and is just a few unconnected stories thrown together and the ending makes no sense. It was more ridiculous than scary and I was more inclined to laugh than anything. It didn't have one scary moment (and I am usually very easily scared). If you haven't seen the first one I'd advise watching it but AVOID The Grudge 2!

Hmmm, here we are again, with tons of reviews by people who don't seem to like Japanese horror or psychological horror but feel compelled to trash something because it's a successful franchise. The good news is that for me at least, Jo-On The Grudge 2 held it's own perfectly well with the original. You can see from this and his more recent Reincarnation that director Shimizu Takashi doesn't appear to be the kind of guy to keep making exactly the same film, but retains the most effective elements and adds new ones to further develop both his style and the scope of the story. Wow! What else can i say? Starts off on a high, then slows down a little and has you thinking that you know exactly whats going to happen next. Then other things start happening and you think, "Hmm... Didnt see that one coming... Still... I know whats coming up next...". Only you're wrong! So when the unexpected happens, you're so shocked at what you just witnessed, that you miss the last 10 minutes of the film! Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... It'll just make you even more confused anyway! Excellent film!

It wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be, I, like most, was expecting a horror, but its not. Its a psychological thriller really, but its quite enjoyable. The story is more about the man as apossed to the girl he finds. Personally, I liked it, it was subtle and not over-bloody and gorey which is good, because it would have distracted from the story. Well worth watching if you like quiet, atmospheric asain films.
