Helena Bonham Carter is at her best in this gem of a film, as are her Co actors.

I do not understand that the news of the brilliance of this film, has not been more widely spread, and therefore I will do my best to chime in the chorus of praise of this film.

It surpasses Gosford park and most period drama by miles. The portraits of the prime actors is delicately cut and reveals the nature of each role to the bone, heart and spirit of the character as well as the spirit and hypocrisies of the time.

What can't be done, should have been done and what is done should have been avoided. It is the keepers of the rules and the "right thing to do", who ruins all by not knowing that the lives and happiness of all ... Read More:

ah the never ending idea of getting in established actors to play irish people and adapt an accent that makes me ill never ceases to dull my senses but if the film is decent enough then i can learn to move on,with ordinary decent criminals that notion doesnt apply as the film is a howler from start to finish.
The film had to be altered at the last minute, the original film was centred around real life crime lord martin cahill, but then the film makers heard that a film about him was already being made,(the general) so the script was altered even if a few similarities remain.
The film is devoid of soul and the pace is lazy,i believe there are funny parts in here, they didnt find me,spacey looks uncomfortable here and it is one film that i ... Read More:

DVD : Nothing Personal [1996]
"Nothing Personal" is a film about the darkest days of the Northern Ireland Troubles in the mid 1970's, which even today it is almost taboo to discuss. It was the time of a vicious terrorist campaign by the Provisional IRA ,of no-go areas for the security forces, no- warning bombs, vicious rioting and a cut throat serial killing campaign by loyalist paramilitaries. "Nothing Personal" captures the mood of this very frightening time perfectly. The acting ,characterisation and cinematography are first rate and the "factional" story line gripping. Despite the grim, malevolent atmosphere of the film, there are moments of humour and a decent 70's soundtrack featuring some well known hits of the time. The attention to detail is well observed too ;the ... Read More:

I was quite suprised at this DVD, as I only brought it because my favorite actor Julian Wadham is in it. So I was delighted to see all the other actors in this were exceptional as well, especially Phillip Glenister who plays the baron. After watching him in the television series Life on Mars, I thought it would be quite comical watching him do a German accent, but he pulled it off really well, and you forget that he is actually doing this. Brilliant production, Brilliant Cast, just a shame Julian Wadham gets killed in the first hour.

7.December Bride [1990] starring: Donal McCann, Saskia Reeves, Ciarán Hinds, Patrick Malahide, Brenda Bruce
