As this appears to be the only region 2 version of this film, I was forced to buy it. Like other reviewers, I love the film, but am completely unimpressed with the "25th anniversary edition" DVD, hence the one star (it would have had 4 or 5). I probably won't even watch the special feature (note singular) as (a) it isn't about the film and (b) I don't believe in ghosts anyway so it would probably irritate me. There also seems to be a very odd cut at 32:48, though I suppose it's possible that was on the original print - but it really looks to me as if some footage was missing. Rather disturbing. Grade D-. Could do a lot better :(

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the great horror movies. Filmed in the 70's on a shoe string budget it comes across as it is meant to as a grimy and sleazy shocker. The usual bad acting in places doesn't matter one bit as you get drawn in knowing you are watching one of cinemas legendary films. It will shock you how little blood is actually shown on the film. This is a fantastic edition with some amazing extras and the steel book looks great. I just hope that they have now covered everything and this is the last run. 5 Stars and please no 8 disc mega definitive edition next year.

An interesting film but it's a full screen DVD with a widescreen letterbox. If you have a widescreen TV you will be disappointed.

the jarring transition from one scene to the next mentioned in the previous review is a flaw on the film itself and not the disc. it's always been there. hope that helps.

Well where do I start? This film is absoulety stunning, whether your talking about the scenery, acting, atmosphere... its just amazing.

After the ploughing through the rest,MoH Series 2 Vol 2 is surprisingly decent and more consistent. The entries are as follows: We All Scream For Ice Cream(Dir Tom Holland) Stephen King rip off about a man who returns to his hometown bringing with him the ice cream selling clown of his youth who intends to exact revenge on a group of childhood friends for a prank that misfired.Okay but terribly unoriginal. Sounds Alike (Dir Brad Anderson) More like it as Anderson,director of Session 9 and the excellent The Machinist,sets out a creepy tale about a grieving father Chris Bauer whose hearing intensifies to all most unbearable level and sends the poor chap over the edge.Genuinely atmospheric with a haunting final shot. ... These reviews and the description (which even bemoans "the lack of extra features on this disc") all seem to refer to the standard edition of TCM2, when in fact this listing and illustration is for "The Gruesome Edition" which has various excellent extras, including 2 commentaries (one with director Tobe Hooper, and another featuring various cast members plus Tom Savini), a selection of deleted scenes (which more than earn this edition it's "Gruesome" tag), stills galleries and an extensive documentary - so this is the edition you want if it's the extras you're after... As for the film, it's not a patch on the original, but then what is, but it's still enjoyable in it's own right and getting "the gruesome edition" will certainly enhance that enjoyment.

To begin, Tobe Hooper is one of my all-time favourite horror movie directors. From his raw debut shocker THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE to the Spielberg-friendly spookfest POLTERGEIST, Hooper has always managed to raise a fanboy warmth in my heart when one of his new movies is released. THE FUNHOUSE is a minor work in his canon, which benefits from great make-up effects from Craig Reardon/Rick Baker and Hoopers' own strong visual directorial style. The actual script is pretty lame, with four teenagers sneaking into a funhouse for an aftershow scare. They are quickly dispatched by a deformed creature in the most routinest of fashions. Not as good as Volume 1 in the Box Set series...but it's quite good. Jenifer: Too gruesome, too pointless, too weird. The odd relationships in this episode were uneasy and there was too much of everything but not in a cool way like Planet Terror. Just in a 'uuurrrggh' way. Dance of the Dead: The scenes with the teenagers were cool, but there was too much pointless nudity AGAIN and the story was just kind of...boring. Haeckel's Tale: Haven't had time to watch this one yet, so I cannot make a judgement. Fair-Headed Child: Excellent, well acted and just gruesome enough to be creepy PLUS Lori Petty's there, good to see she's still acting, you might remember her from 'Tank Girl' and the same manic energy is in a subdued form here. ... This film introduces three short films that are tied together through John Carpenter himself, as he introduces three people that have died and tells of their fates. The Good Story(ies): Easily the best story is the first, "Gas Station," directed by Carpenter himself. It tells of a woman's (Anne Draxter) first night on the job at a gas station in the middle of nowhere, run by Bill. (Robert Carradine) She is left alone and begins the usual daily activities inherent with a gas station: serving customers.
