DVD : Why Did I Get Married (Full Dub Sub Ac3 Dol Chk) [2007] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I mainly decided to watch this film when I found out Jill Scott was in it. She made a good attempt and looked beautiful on camera. She's especially good in the South African film "Ladies Detective Agency". Each couple had their own story to tell and they told it simply although there were times I kept finding myself stretching some of the scenes and lines, feeling they could have been fleshed out a bit more but i understand budget constraints :). I've only just realised, after surfing around Youtube via Tyler Perry that he has since made a couple more films, I've watched the trailers so will be ordering "Daddy's Little Girls" and "Meet the Browns".

Keep going Tyler, you'll get better and better each and every time.

DVD : Madea's Family Reunion [2006] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This movie was superb. I wish it was available in PAL (not just US/Canada's NTSC format). I was both inspired not only with it's hysterical, insightful humour, but with it's global appeal. It brings out themes that EVERYBODY can relate to, not only the diverse and often lovable flaws in families, but personal problems and insightfully familiar life themes. The movie has great wit and side splitting humour. It's such fun to watch and this man is a star!

He really should be more widely recognised world-wide, a fantastic film that will leave you feeling inspired and wanting to watch more of this wonderful character.

Time to come and do a show in South Africa too!

What a talent!!!

DVD : Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls [2007] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I like Tyler Perry - ever since I saw 'Why Did I Get Married?' (the play version and then the film with Janet Jackson) - I wanted to see Daddy's Little Girls. I ordered it, and the day it arrived I sat down with my two eldest daughters to watch it.

It made me cry, it made me laugh, and it made me happy. Yes, it was corny and cliched. Yes, it ended too soon. And some of the characters were definitely only 2 dimensional.

But for all of that, I felt it was a film that showed that black men love their kids too, can be there for them, and that love should not depend on your income or status.

Heartily recommend.

P.S. Idris Elba is seriously FINE!!!!

5.Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns [2008] (REGION 1) (NTSC) starring: Margaret Avery, Angela Bassett, Frankie R. Faison, Irma P. Hall, Jenifer Lewis

DVD : Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns [2008] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Angela Bassett stars as a single mother of 3 kids struggling to make ends meet in inner city Chicago
2. A death in the family takes them to Georgia, where they meet the Browns
3. A quick Rick Fox jumps into the crazy clan
4. Over-the-top characters, prolonged punch lines and unnecessary family secrets lead to a predictable ending

This movie has an established talent pool of a cast, and usually they can be depended on to put the "dis" in dysfunctional, but this time the jokes fail to flow smoothly, wasting the comedic talents of Jenifer Lewis, David Mann and Frankie Faison. Tyler Perry appears briefly as his most beloved character Madea, but even this ... Read More:
