I'll not add much to the already comprehensive reviews by others. Just to say this must be the bargain of all bargains - you get five DVD's with almost 13 hours playing time. To me Rising Damp is the finest of all the sitcoms although there were others on a similar level during that wonderful TV era. Rising Damp just makes you laugh - you can't help it and it is never forced. Unlike the tripe that is offered these days (either boring and bland or nasty and foul) Rising Damp has the finest ever comedy writng and the finest acting. It wasn't PC (thank goodness) but never caused nor meant any harm in its comedy. If ever you are feeling a bit depressed or low just put on any of the Rising Damp DVD's and within minutes you'll be laughing ... Read More:

Once again Network dvd have proved they are number 1 at releasing rare classic television series on dvd. This dvd contains all 7 episodes of the first series. Only When I Laugh concerns 3 patients in hospital played by Peter Bowles (The Bounder), Christopher Strauli (Raffles) and James Bolam (New Tricks) who enjoy life in hospital and arn't keen to leave. Under the watchfull eye of droll Doctor Thorpe played by Richard Wilson (One Foot In The Grave) they get up to all sorts of antics. The quality of the episodes is superb and they are uncut with the advert breaks (without the actual adverts). The episodes are very funny with likeable characters. Suspicious, cynical and yet breathtakingly nervous, Rigsby quietly befriends and indeed needs his resident comedy foils. He knows their types, though, he's seen them all before. Indelicate with live audience belly laughs, this is a real sitcom like they used to make: funny in that it'll make you laugh.

At Last It was great to see these again the only complaint i have is No Christmas special so its not the complete works. But anyway back to the box set its great value for money great to watch rigsby chase miss jones through the whole four series and then in the last one very nearly marry her LOL. poor rigsby just doesnt have much luck with women at all. Then there is phillip the so called african student who is soposed to be the son of a chief who episode after episode has to fight off the advances of miss jones and Alan the gullible student who like rigsby never seems to have any luck with the birds.
