This is an eclectic collection of love tales set in Paris , some slightly dull and some just brilliant . The whole movie is worth watching just because of the Coen brothers film with Steve Buscemi and the romance between a boy and a vampire.

There are a lot of familiar faces in the movie and the short films a generally well directed , just because is 18 of them , it feels a little short.

DVD : Cube [1998]
This is one of the most intelligent films ever made. It is a metaphor for the prison that is the limitations of the human mind/western society.

The clues throughout the film are abundant. Each of the characters' names represents a prison:

Leaven + Worth = Fort Leavenworth Prison.
Holloway = Women's Prison.
Kazan = Prison for the mentally handicapped.
Rennes = Prison that innovated many prison norms and regulations used today (Hence Renne's creativity in dealing with traps).
Quentin = San Quentin, a prison known for it's brutality.
Alderson = A prison that focuses on isolation as a form of punishment.

Each of the characters has a skill that will help the group as a whole to escape ... Read More:

DVD : Nothing [2003] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
'Nothing' tells the story of two dysfunctional childhood friends who have had very unpleasant lives. It begins with the day on which events in both their lives reach a crisis point that causes them to wish that everything would just disappear and leave them alone. Their wish comes true.....

I was initially dubious about how this concept could be entertaining for the entire length of a film, but as with their other film 'Cube', Vincenzo Natali, David Hewlett and Andrew Miller have the skill to make a film that really grabs your attention. I've just finished watching it and I thought it was absolutely hillarious. It's like no film I've ever seen before.

I heartily recommend it to anyone who likes an unusal, original, thought ... Read More:

When Morgan Sullivan(Jeremy Northam) is given a job with Digicorp, he is told that he is to be a corporate spy, recording sensitive information about rival companies at various conferences. He is also given a new identity, and is now called Jack Thursby. He meets a woman called Rita Foster(Lucy Liu) who initially says that she is a Hotel inspector, but when they meet up again, what she tells him is going to shatter Morgan's world, and make him question his own sanity.
This is a wonderful film, multi layered, complex but with a very rewarding pay off. Sometimes it can be a little too clever for its own good, but it is so visually dazzling and mind bending that a bit of indulgence can be forgiven. Northam is wonderful in dual roles, and Lucy Liu ... Read More:

i stumbled across this on the sci-fi channel, i didn't even know what it was called but it was beginning and because nothing else was on i decided to see if it was worth my time
i remember my emotion while viewing the opening scene, i was confused yet excited by what was happening then, with the first taste of violence, i was hooked! lol
i was as dumbfounded as the characters were, i didn't know what was happening but had seen what had happened so was anxious for more, ashamedly i was experiencing blood-lust, but this wasn't the average hack-n-slash, the way people met their demise was like nothing i'd ever experienced

looking back i wonder why i never felt an unnerving sense of claustrophobia, i tend to prefer films where the people ... Read More:

This film is awesome but be warned, this version only has 1 disc, get the 2005 version, its actually cheaper and has 2 discs plus comes in a shiny holographic case! trust me, this makes all the difference!!!!

(movie would get 5 stars but this release really seems pointless)

DVD : Tideland: Jeremy Thomas Presents A Film By Terry Gilliam [2006] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
As a Gilliam fan I was expecting far more from this but, as has been said before, this is possibly due to the original story on which the film was based. Things do tend to drag quite a bit after the demise of Geoff Bridges' character. And I was contantly waiting for 'something more' to happen. That said, the film is beautifully shot and well acted and the 'fantasy' scenes are memorable when Gilliam actually gives free reign to his imagination .
