I was a little worried as i'm a blackandwhitefilmophobe but, this fim is marvelous.

Compared to films like Serpico, Taxi Driver, The Warriors that show New York on the 1970's as a cess pit this shows 70's New York through Woody Allen's eyes and what a place it is.

5 Stars all the way.

Interesting film. Complex, if slightly annoying characters who tend to either argue, produce witty anecdotes or whine about how the sex in their relationship is non exsistant. Woody Allen gets on my nerves but I knew this was a film I had to watch as I slowly worked my way through the latest 'hundred greatest films' list, put together no doubt by a group of people who all know each other. I'm not sure why this is on the list but there are some comic moments and yes, although aggrivating, Woody Allen is strangly loveable by the end of the film, although his attitude to women is weirdly uncomfortable and stifling to watch, moving from break up to break up to marriage proposals within an hour and a half. One to watch, but I'm sure his genius is more widely ... Read More:

GOD,this is a bad film,so disappointing to see the great mr allen churn out such dross,script-poor,acting-very poor,characters-unlikeable,the whole thing makes very little sense, even the stunning mrs johansson can't make it watchable, and just a side point jonathan rhys meyers, playing "a poor irish boy",presumably under direction, adopts an accent posher than any of the toff family he marries in to.i'm writing this as i watch the film and every scene confirms my opinion.

I just don't get this movie. Yes, there are some funny one liners from Allen, but this is NOT a five star movie in my humble opinion. Sorry!

This silly movie involves far too much dialogue and characters that for me seemed like cardboard cutouts as opposed to real people. The talking is nonstop and repeats the same things over and over and over again. This doesn't yield insight, it merely makes the clock continue ticking for a lengthier film. Also, the fact that two brothers raised together could have such differing viewpoints on life and guilt rang false with me.

Worst of all was I never found myself caring for either of these brothers. One seemed a ruthless enough that he thought only of himself. To feel no sympathy for either made this film more an endurance than a pleasure to watch.

In Woody Allen's film STARDUST MEMORIES he had aliens show up on Earth wanting to speak with ... Read More:

I'm a fan of Woody Allen films because they're always laced with witty comment and insight into the human condition. This film is no exception but I found that unlike many of Allen's other films the narrative didn't seem to focus enough on anyone in particular (which is surprising given the emphasis on Hannah in the film's title)and that I didn't feel emotionally involved or sympathetic towards any of the characters being portrayed.
Michael Caine's character seemed out of place (an englishman in New York).
I also found the old-fashioned 1930s music and 1930s reminiscent drab, colourless clothes of the cast out of place given that we were supposed to be experiencing New York in the 1980s.However the dialogue was in general good and the film locations interesting. From ... Read More:

When you mention Cult Classics...This is not on any list. But it is on top of mine. Woody takes the "Rip van Winkle" concept and puts us in a future which is...well. Filled with gags or funny insights. I love the "Orgasmatron"...it is funnier than anything done in the last decade or so. Plus I love the health food of the future...make sure all your health food conscience friends watch this...Because you never know!
A great film to watch with friends....

Mighty Aphrodite is the film in which Woody Allen gets the balance right between writing a script that is serious literature and mixing the serious literature with a modern day low-brow bestseller. He uses the idea of the chorus from ancient greek literature as the voice of his conscience and makes a most unlikely series of events seem plausible and highly entertaining, and manages to make something that could have turned out as seeming very sordid, touching and memorable. He was helped in no small part by Mira Sorvino's brilliant (oscar winning) feat of acting in which she played the prostitute Linda as somebody who was like a cartoon character but who was still recognisable as a human being that the viewer would think could exist in real life. There are plenty of subtle and amusing twists ...
