One of the first things we experience on this wonderful DVD is Katherine Jenkins' sense of humour, natural warmth, and un-diva-ish personality, which shine through the whole performance. And talk about pride in being Welsh! :-) Good for her! This DVD is a treat from beginning to end. Wonderful picture quality; super sound; and then there are Katherine Jenkins, Juan Diego Flórez, Serendipity, and the National Symphony Orchestra, all giving of their best. Fantastic!

For three of the Extras, just close your eyes and listen--the picture quality is truly abysmal, but that voice, that voice....

I have had this on video for years, and have watched it many many times, it's one of those musicals you can never get bored of.
I had a dream to see this live, and my wish finaly came true last weekend and i got to see it live at the Theatre.
What can i say but Wow! I didn't think it would be as good as the video, but i was wrong, the whole cast were fantastic, and really out done themselves.
I recommend this musical to anyone, especially those people who love Cats.

When this film was released in 1949 ten years after the last of the great Fred and Ginger musicals of the 1930s it was considered a disappointment, however fifty seven years later it is a wonderful farewell to this immortal dance duo, and with DVD enabling us to fast forward through the less than inspired background story we can enjoy the wonderful dancing again and again.

Apart from Fred and Ginger as the squabbling married dance team we have Oscar Levant a prominent concert pianist of the time who also acted in films giving exciting iron fisted performances of “Sabre Dance” and “Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto excerpts” in the robust virtuoso manner of the time.

Beautifully digitally restored and with good mono sound ... Read More:

There's little reason to see this Fred Astaire-Eleanor Powell movie except for the dance numbers--and they provide the best reasons in the world. The plot involves a song-and-dance team (Astaire and George Murphy), a Broadway show with a big star (Eleanor Powell), mistaken identity, true friendship and boy gets girl.

Most of the dance numbers, however, are extraordinary, with songs by Cole Porter. Powell sings and taps out "I Am the Captain" in a major production number featuring big sets and lots of chorus boys. She shows why she was a great tap dancer and a major musical star who could carry a movie by herself. Astaire and Murphy do "Please Don't Monkey With Broadway," a fine example of a song-and-dance tap act that involves intricate patterns, ... Read More:

This has to be the most exuberant production of all time. There is not a moment wasted and the direction and acting are sensational.

This is a lyrical tour de force. How does Natalie Dessay manage to control her voice whilst lying down or being thrown around? Juan Diego Flores is a delight and in fine voice and the supporting cast is wonderful.

A not-to-be-missed masterpiece by Donizetti.

This is a great Doris collection. The only flaw being that Lucky Me is not in Widescreen (it was the first Cinemascope musical).
The Pajama Game allows us to see Doris' development from the early feel good musicals to more contemporary material. She is flawless throughout.

This is the opera that shot Georgiu to stardom. It's easy to see why, with her combination of acting, looks and singing. Violetta is a very difficult role, it places very different demands on the singer in each act. Georgiu isn't quite ideal for act 1, but after that she's really in her element. You can practically see the paternal pride in Solti's face as he watches his young protegee bloom. Surely the definitive Traviata.
