I love these boys and whilst they are strictly speaking no longer relevant in the 21st centuty, they do put on the best live shows that you will ever see.

Biggest Bang falls just short of the 5 star Four Flicks but in its own way it enables you to relive memorable gigs that you have been to.

If you've never seen the Stones then buy this DVD as an introduction to their stage craft and solid on-stge performance.

If you have seen the boys then this is the change to recapture that night at a venue somewhere in the world.

As the boys sang "It's Only Rock n Roll" and boy do we like it.

This is, without doubt, a colossus of a DVD. Three great full concerts and an intersting documentary which is far more than the "filler" than these documentaries often are. The "Worried About You" scene in this documentary (even if it is contrived) is pure Rolling Stones magic.

The three concerts are a stadium show at London's Twickenham (the day after a show had been cancelled because of Jagger's laryngitis). Jagger is on great form and you'd never have known he'd been ill the day before; an arena show at Madison Square Garden which features some nice not so regularly played tracks - "Monkey Man", "If You Can't Rock Me", "Let It Bleed" and "Thru And Thru", plus a storming "Midnight Rambler". The highlight for me, though, is the small ... Read More:

Good Lord! What a mess! No wonder the Stones suppressed this for almost 30 years . Forget being "upstaged" by the Who, this was a classic waste of money and is mainly interesting as a sort of unintentional comedy. The Who certainly ripped things up and proved themselves to be the best live performers in the world (like we needed any more evidence after Live at Leeds and Isle of Wight '71), but Jethro Tull are simply awful- they honestly look like circus performers, and one wonders how on earth they made the cut.

Taj Mahal steals the show with authentic Chicago style blues, but the rest of the performers, including the Stones, appear bored and confused. Special note should be made of the lackluster performance by John Lennon fronting what should ... Read More:

I've really enjoyed this film over the years and it's great to see it out on DVD with plenty of bonus material.

For me this was the beginning of their best live period with Mick Taylor now in the band. Late 60s/early 70s Stone rocked. This performance by them is quite raw, partly due to it being Taylor's first live appearance. Highlights include Love In Vain and the climax of Sympathy For The Devil (complete with African drummers).

This DVD releases come with lots of extras. The most interesting and relevant are 3 bonus tracks not originally featured in the film - Mercy Mercy, Stray Cat Blues and No Expectations. Unfortunately the latter two aren't complete.

I enjoyed this more than the Gimme Shelter movie mainly because ... Read More:

The Stones have earned their mantle for being real musicians. They can be rightly be called as legends having been responsible for Beggars banquet, Let it bleed, Sticky fingers and Exile on main street which are Classic albums essential for anybody who is into Rock music.

While they have produced serious stuff, they have never taken themselves seriously, they are a fun band and out to entertain. As, at the time this was filmed, they were nearing middle age, they were not out to shock to appeal to the teenyboppers, they were out to be as outrageous as possible and wallow in the 'debauched rock and roll lifestyle'.

IMHO, this is a perfect example of it.

Sure Jagger can't sing and the guitars sounded out of tune but that was not ... Read More:
