I was lucky enough to see The Highwaymen live in when they came to the UK, probably not long after this show was recorded and the show I saw was very similar to the one they did on the DVD. I have always been a huge fan of Willie Nelson and also like the others, but when you see them together you cannot believe you have 4 huge country stars on the same stage, singing together!. The DVD brought back many memories of one of the best live shows I have seen - and I have been to loads. The rapport between the guys is obvious, and regardless of what Willie says about 'all of us having ego's the size of a bus' what cmes over is a fantasic group of country singers doing what they do best. Nice collection but there's a huge space where Don Felder should be. The session guy gets the notes (most of them anyway) but not the feel, and they made him stand way over to the left just so there was no mistaking the fact that he wasn't really part of the 'family' . When Felder plays on HFO the pure enjoyment and mastery comes bursting out of the screen and overall HFO it is the best production but I bought them both anyway.

This DVD contains a wealth of information. To hear John Denver talking about his songs , the events that inspired him , the frustrations he had and the joy he gained from developing the songs was such a pleasure. There are five or so other people that talk about John and his music including long terms band members , his manager and music producer. They reveal gems of information that only these people with the intimate knowledge they had through their relationship with Jonn can reveal.None more so than his ex-wife Annie Denver. When you listen to her and watch her speak with such feeling you begin to understand what the song was all about. My boss kindly lent me this set last week. I already had the original version of the "1000 Years" show on CD, but this video adds new dimensions to the performance. Much of the focus, of course, is on RT as he stands at the mike in that characteristic twisted posture, leading with his right shoulder, eyes closed on the ballads, biting off the end of the lines of the fast songs, effortlessly switching from humorous banter to performances of extraordinary intensity, and playing just about the best acoustic guitar you've ever heard. If there is such a thing as perfection this is it. A sincere and very emotional performance, Christy couldn't possibly give any more. The quality of the DVD, both visual and audio is excellent. I rented this DVD from Amazon, now I'm going to buy it.
