Well it's been a long long time for this to see the light of day but it has to go down as the best music DVD ever produced. The Led Zeppelin legend is captured here in all it's glory with superb sound and images. Starting with black and white tv shows from 1969 all the way up to a stunning huge open air Knebworth extravaganza in 1979 with everything in between. If you either saw the band live and want to re-live the experience or want to know why they are still idolised 40 years after their first get-together in Jimmy Page's River Thames houseboat then get this DVD-you will not regret it.

This DVD contains a wealth of information. To hear John Denver talking about his songs , the events that inspired him , the frustrations he had and the joy he gained from developing the songs was such a pleasure. There are five or so other people that talk about John and his music including long terms band members , his manager and music producer. They reveal gems of information that only these people with the intimate knowledge they had through their relationship with Jonn can reveal.None more so than his ex-wife Annie Denver. When you listen to her and watch her speak with such feeling you begin to understand what the song was all about. Although the dvd spec stipulates PAL T.V. settings I had to reset player to NTSC-so if you have a problem with that leave well alone.(I also had to return initial copy as first dvd would not be read at all, however fine when amazon replaced.) Second drawback is that throughout the entire 3 DVD package you have to put up with an intrusive garish border (stating the title; Bob Dylan Transmissions)which reduces the actual screen size significantly. You can get rid of it using the zoom function but the gain in quantity of picture is matched by subsequent reduction in quality. After all that the quality of the performances make this a bargain bootleg for the committed Dylan fan. The 3rd DVD is the Woodstock 94 set-even if you already have it like ... Read More:

My boss kindly lent me this set last week. I already had the original version of the "1000 Years" show on CD, but this video adds new dimensions to the performance. Much of the focus, of course, is on RT as he stands at the mike in that characteristic twisted posture, leading with his right shoulder, eyes closed on the ballads, biting off the end of the lines of the fast songs, effortlessly switching from humorous banter to performances of extraordinary intensity, and playing just about the best acoustic guitar you've ever heard. This latter skill is well showcased in rhis unbelievably eclectic set, from his picking out of the intricate melody on the Gilbert and Sullivan number, to the rhythmic, funky thump that drives "So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo" and the expert ... I dont remember buying this I must have been drunk. It's as awful as I'm not there is brilliant. Average performances made worse by terrible sound and vision quality. How can they peddle this rubbish? What happened to digital remastering? It's not here. I've given it one star because you cannot give less.

More AFBF material - this time from British concerts Anyone interested in Blues will have to buy this one. I wasn't aware that the 1964 show was recorded in the UK although I suspected it might have been when a Sonny Boy clip surfaced on YouTube. The cheering that greets Howlin Wolf is extremely heartwarming - he then proceeds to lay down Smokestack Lightnin - unavailable anywhere else on film as far as I know - and Don't Laugh at Me. Lightnin Hopkins is in there too while Sugar Pie Desanto does a couple of spirited performances Also from 1964 (but not part of the AFBF series) are two songs apiece from Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the Blues and Gospel Caravan from a now-closed railway station in Manchester. The picture is great but in most of the songs the sound is bad when Shakira sing to close to the microphone you just have to turn the volume down because of the noise.
