I'll try and be brief with this review, when the new avengers came out it was UNFAIRLY PANNED by the "critics"i can only assume they were still pining for the georgous mrs.peel and all things which were 60's.To be fair series one is superb (as good as anything from the original avengers)series 2 is weak(er)but this was down to fall outs with the production crew and tv studios and the filming having to be moved to canada. This set is worth buying for series 1 alone, the chemistry is there especially between gambit (the late gareth hunt) and purdey (joanna lumley....LEGEND AND NATIONAL INSTITUTION)my own favorite episodes are target (it's the one per cent that kills you) and sleeper(watch for joanna in the shop window). There you go,nice and brief,if ... The best ever! No other series comes close to how brilliant this show was. BUT what is amazing is that this brilliant BRITISH show seems to be only available in region 1. This isn't fair and we are so pleased that we have a region free machine otherwise we would not be able to see this wonderful collection. The Diana Rigg series far outstrips the other series. We would rate this 10 Star, if there is ever such a rating!!! Thank You Diana and Patrick for such a great show.

In spite of some minor flaws in picture and sound quality these disc are worth every penny.
The mono soundtrack sounds a bit dull to those who are used to multi channel encoded discs in the Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS format, but all in all sound quality is really good considering this series were made more than three decennia ago. The picture quality is absolutely fabulous for a series from 1967. I've never seen The Avengers in such bright colours. When I first saw them on television they looked much more faded and less colourful.

The episodes themselves are all very enjoyable to watch. Being a great fan of the series I have to say that I'm very fond of the first colour episode "From Venus With Love". The reason for that is quite simple: It was the ... Read More:

Sadly this film was always likely to fail. For a start The Avengers was very much a product of its time - it was uniquely 1960s & would always struggle to involve a new audience in the 1990s. That left the die-hard fans who would almost inevitiably dislike it - that includes me. I tried hard to like it. In fairness the film tries hard to recapture the feel of the tv series, including set pieces from the Emma Peel days. However, Uma Thurman cannot possibly emulate Diana Rigg & Steed and Patrick Macnee are virtually the same person, so whoever took on the role would be on a loser. The fact that Ralph Fiennes has less charisma & charm than Steed's umbrella just made things worse.

So avoid this film & if you can, get the classic tv series ... Read More:

This box set is even better than the first. It contains some smashing episodes of my favourite series of all time. In "The Living Dead" Emma gets imprisoned in an underground city but escapes just in time to rescue Steed. The marvellous episode "The Hidden Tiger" is also included in this set. It's absolutely a five star episode in which cats can be turned into ferocious wild animals by remote control. The school for gentlemen from "The Correct Way to Kill" is also absolutely a highlight in the Avengers Series. In "Never, Never Say Die" Christopher Lee gets run down by a car twice. "Epic" is, just like "The Joker" (not included on this set), one of those episodes I most fondly remember. It's a wonderful Emma Peel episode in which see makes a movie whether see likes it or not. ... Read More:

This is the third smashing box set of "The Avengers" first colour season. And I have to say it's a great one. Sound quality is good considering this series were made more than three decennia ago. But the episode "Return of the Cybernauts" features some nasty distortion (probably a Dolby digital encoding error). Picture quality is good. Picture is sharp and colours are bright. The extras include a wonderful picture gallery. But I still find the "Follow That Hat" feature a little disappointing. All in all this is a worthy addition to your collection!

"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Station" is a nice homage to train mysteries such as Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes". The plot maybe thin but this episode is quite enjoyable with a good eccentric John Laurie (the ... Read More:

I was delighted to get this entire second series of classic 60s spy series "The Avengers",the first time we meet Cathy Gale(Honor Blackman)who helps John Steed(Patrick Macnee)in seventeen of these stories,in three of the stories, hes joined by Dr.Martin King(Jon Rollason)a character created to use three storylines, left over from the first series of Patrick Macnee and Ian Hendry.(Dr.David Keel)
Honor Blackman's Cathy Gale going on to be Steed's full time partner in all 26 episodes of season three of "The Avengers".
Steed's final partner in this season is the young naive singer,Venus Smith(Julie Stevens)who helps Steed in six of the stories.
Julie Stevens wears a blonde wig in her first two stories, its only when we see her own blonde hair cut short,we seen how young ... Read More:

Avengers 1967 Box Set 4:
This is the last box set of "The Avengers" first colour season. Again it's a great joy to see these lovely episodes again. Although it looks as if they can't avoid the little distortions or encoding errors, sound quality is good considering the series were made in the late sixties. The episode "The Positive-Negative Man" two times suffers from minor splats in the audio. This minor imperfection is also present in "The Forgot-Me-Knot." Overall picture quality is all right, but the image sometimes shows some scratches. I don't think it's disturbing, it merely adds a touch of nostalgia. Picture is sharp and colours are clear. The extras include a wonderful picture gallery and an introduction to Linda Thorson (Tara King). But don't expect too much of the "Follow ... Read More:

Linda Thorson amply takes over from the legendary Mrs Peel (Diana Rigg), as Steed's much younger, softer, doe-eyed, brunette, beautiful sidekick, Tara King.

At only 20-years-old, Miss Thorson brought fresh energy, humour and much more soft femininity to 'The Avengers'. We find a far more upbeat signature tune by Laurie Johnson: the drumroll promises a crescendo of excitement as Steed delicately picks a rose and Tara runs across a bridge to meet her ever-sartorial,supersleuth mate... the adventures begin!

The same wonderful formula of 'The Avengers' is ever-present: Steed and Tara get their secret assignment, go into the world of those dastardly masterminds and come out fighting with style, charm and endless humour...expressed in the finest of 1960's Received Pronunciation... ... Read More:
