Despite the other reviewers rating (2 stars?), this is the definitive edition we've been waiting for in the UK. This set comes with a fairly sturdy tin box, a 60-page booklet with Eva/Angel info and a glossary of terms you'll hear in Eva. It also, obviously, comes with the 7-disc 26-episode run of NGE, remastered especially for this set. While the picture quality dips at times and occasionally shows its age, its much better than the VHS/DVD releases of the past. This set comes with director's cuts of various episodes, commentaries and 4 documentaries. It's the best boxset were likely to see in the UK and at £72, I was very happy with what I got. If you havent seen Eva before, then I'd be wary about your preconceptions or word-of0mouth reviews. ... Read More:

I enjoyed Evangelion alot, and in general found the last episodes quite confusing so this helped me get the idea better.
This is how it should have been done originally.

DVD : Neon Genesis Evangelion - Death And Rebirth [2002]
Ever since I started watching anime (which has not been all that long), I have been curious about some of the big series. Like the nearly infinite number of Gundam's, the Lodoss series, and, of course, Evangelion. The latter has such universal popularity that I finally decided to try it. Put off by the price of the episodes I was attracted to this DVD, because of its two features, 'Death' was a recap of the series, and 'Rebirth' would provide some insight into its ending and meaning.

As usual, I was being optimistic. My first viewing of 'Death' left me feeling that I had just experienced one of those shorts that were titled '26,000 Years of Art in 60 Seconds.' It does indeed recap the high points of the series, but as a crazed rollercoaster ride - with ... Read More:

So the Prisoner has this reputation for being a difficult show because the last episode pushes aside all the questions about who was running the village and who Number One was for an allegorical story quite different from what had gone before. And Evangelion does a similar thing - except that we've already had episodes earlier in the run done in the same style as the last two episodes.

In the 24th episode the fifth child and the last angel arrive at NERV, the end of the world is at stake, can Shinji save mankind? Okay, don't read the DVD box if you don't want to know, because it totally blows the plot twists. (The platinum collection includes both the originally transmitted version of the story and a director's cut version, as well as a handy little booklet.) ... Read More:

This volume sadly only contains 4 episodes, one down from the previous two. Do I detect a bit of a money-grab from ADV? Well, onto the actual contents.

Most of the episodes contained live up to the remarlable standards set by earlier episodes of Evangelion. For me, only Serial Experiments Lain comes close to the substance of this series. In this volume, it becomes plainer than ever that Eva is so much more than an ordinary mecha show. Misato and Ritsuko finally get some substantial backstory and, as far as I remember, in all of the episodes, there are some of the nice little character-driven moments which make Eva so enjoyable.

Episode 11 - The Day Tokyo-3 Stood Still - was really for the action-fans. Without giving away anything, we also get some inside into ... Read More:

DVD : Neon Genesis Evangelion - Death And Rebirth/End of Evangelion [3 disc set]
Having never seen the critically acclaimed anime from which this is derived, I watched this film with the expectation of gaining some perspective with which to enjoy its companion-piece "End of Evangelion"

this was definitely NOT the case, this film is absolutely indecipherable in its bullet-like ricochetting between time-frames,here 12 months ago, there 3 weeks ago, the other 2 years ago.

I have, as a result, just started watching (and greatly enjoying) the series proper and already I am feeling the effects of this catastrophically unsuccessful distillation of the storyline.

GO AND WATCH THE SERIES, NOT THIS, it's recycled clips of animation from the series has nothing to offer for one who has followed the storyline and to the unitiated it will ... Read More:

DVD : Neon Genesis Evangelion - Perfect Collection
First, lets get things straight. This, in my opinion, is the best anime ever! You may have seen anime's such as Naruto, Bleach, Trigun and many more, but none can compare to the intense story line of Evangelion. The whole show can get quite complex and physiological but even I can grasp what's going on at the age of 14. The fight scenes can get quite graphical and intense whereas in other scenes you can feel the emotion of the character. Now that you have the basic idea of what it's like i will tell you some shocking information. I myself do not own this box set. Yet thanks to my dear friend I have seen all the episodes within 3 evenings after school. This is because once you start watching you can't stop! I enjoyed it so much I have decided to purchase this box set very soon. After searching ... Read More:
