For me, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie were, are and always shall be, the quintessential Jeeves and Wooster! As English as Pimms and Cucumber sandwiches, this glorious P.G. Wodehouse creation lifts the veil on the altogether more carefree life in 1920's high society, ironically observed through the wit of one of our great writers. And who better to bring it to the screen than two of our greatest comic talents.

Sadly, P.G. Wodehouse has suffered of late from the tight mouthed disapproval of Political Correctness. I wish that some people could just get over their left wing angst about "toffs" though, and see this for what it is - a wry and witty gallop through an entirely different era. This is comic farce, and it pokes fun at absolutely ... Read More:

I didn't think Jeeves & Wooster could ever be succesfully transferred to screen until I saw this series. Absolutely brilliant! Lovely settings, costumes, music etc to back up the characters. Minor quibbles: frequent casting changes (e.g. three different Madeleine Bassets over the course of the series!), the third series is not quite as good as the first two and the fourth series is not as good as the third, oh, and of course the infuriating anti-piracy advert that you can't skip...my dvd player will only pause for about a minute before going back to the beginning, so every time I make a cup of tea, answer the phone etc...I have to watch that horrible thing all over again! I loved this series though, have watched it so much that I'm probably ... Read More:

As a life-long devotee of P G Wodehouse's 'Jeeves' stories I was worried that the televised version might not convey the light-hearted and hilarious spirit of the books. I need not have worried. Fry and Laurie are the perfect Jeeves and Wooster and this series perfectly captures both the style and content of the stories. It is very funny, endearing and excellent viewing. If you like period drama you'll love this. If you like P G Wodehouse's novels, you'll love this. If you like Fry and Laurie, you'll love this. Really, it can't miss - it should be compulsory viewing as an antidote to the violence of modern films and dramas.

DVD : Jeeves And Wooster - The Complete Second Series
Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry return as the scatterbrained aristocrat and his brainy butler in the second season of "Jeeves and Wooster." The series based on P.G. Wodehouse's classic novels is almost as funny as the books, with the goofy characters and tangled storylines... which are always untangled by Jeeves.
Hugh Laurie, who is now winning raves in the TV show "House," is wonderfully manic as Bertie, using his expressive face and gangly body like a less demented John Cleese. And Stephen Fry embodies the catlike grace and intelligence that Wodehouse always wrote Jeeves as having. The impeccable hair and ever-present suit don't hurt.

"Jeeves and Wooster" only got stronger in its second season, full of disgraced newt-fanciers, angry Nazis, ... Read More:

Jeeves would never, never, under any circumstances appear dressed in women's clothing. Still less would he be likely to sing in public. I doubt Bertie would cross dress.
This is a travesty of Wodehouse and I suspect owes more to the inflated ego of the producer who seems to believe that he is a better story teller than Wodehouse than any attempt to show Wodehouse's genius. If like me you are a lover of the true genre do not touch this abberation with a bargepole.

This is very much in the same style as the first two series, but not quite as good, or subtle, or consistent.
The big difference is that J&W leave the tranquility of England behind for three episodes, so you may miss Totleigh Towers, Madeleine Bassett and Gussie Fink-Nottle if you're addicted to them.
The thing I like most about Jeeves and Wooster is the setting in England, so I wasn't as keen on this series, though half of it is still set back in Blighty.
And I think that some of the stories are getting a bit silly (sillier than usual that is), though not as silly as in the fourth series.
But having said that, this disc is really a must if you've enjoyed the first two.
