My brother just bought this for me (I put him up rent free for months when he came back from traveling). One of the best things he has ever got me. There are five DVDs and I've already watched three, I've only had it a week.

When you watch it your just in awe of the scenery, it's beautiful. There is a purposefully made score for it that just adds to the enjoyment. As for people that say they can't hear David Attenborough because of the music, they must be deaf the music always quietens down when he talks. I love the Planet Earth Diaries parts, it's very enjoyable to watch.

I may be wrong but I think this was the first or first major nature progamme to be filmed fully in HD and it's all the better for it.

The wet bits with the animals are well filmed although some of the animals look like they are playing up to the camera at times. The underwater bits don't look real in places especially with the multicoloured tiny fizzers. Also the dolphins are singled out as something special like in most fish films, but they are just a fish! This is since Flipper set the benchmark of what to expect of a fish. The documentary would have scored higher if it left out the dolphins and made Dave say 'tuna' not 'tuna' as he pronounces it. He says 'tuna' as in 'tooner' where I say 'tuna' as in 'choona'. He's not American!

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said but... this series shows some of the most eye-popping, jaw-dropping, mind-boggling images you're ever likely to see.

If you like nature programmes (in fact, even if you don't) it's impossible to imagine you won't be blown away by this documentary series...

The Planet earth series is an amazing collection of video footage that only the BBC seem to be able to capture in so much detail.

5 Disc collection in HD DVD.

The HD DVD is stunning, the best HD DVD I have seen, on this format and blu-ray, colour's are bright, water is crystal clear and close up details is stunning.

Sound via Dolby Digital is very good, subtle enough to make you feel part of the wildness.

A DVD worth every penny, it is education, enjoyable and amazing.

For some reason I enjoyed this series far more the second time around. As is usual with more recent BBC wildlife series, the actual camera work is visually stunning. Shots are posed for effect and I spent most of the time wishing for a bigger screen than my poor old CRT telly.

As most of the stars of the film are slower moving than the usual subjects of current wildlife documentaries, it was a pleasure to see David Attenborough daring to handle snakes, frogs and lizards, annoy nesting alligators and don a specially coated visor to demonstrate how a cheesed off snake spat venom. It will be very sad if this is his last series- either due to age -or worse the threatened BBC cutbacks.

There aren't any extra features over and above the originally ... Read More:

This has rapidly become one of the most enlightening and enjoyable purchases I have ever made.

I had owned some of the Trials of Life episodes and had always wanted the whole collection in DVD format. As far as I know these are not offered in the U.S.A. So when I found this collection I was ecstatic. I love anything with Sir David Attenborough and to have the whole Trials of Life collection I would have paid at least a hundred dollars, then I saw this. It has, not only trials of Life, but the entire Life Series including the great Life on Earth! I bought it instantly.

This is definitely worth the money. You get 24 discs, all great quality and a good looking case!

From the lofty heights of fronting ad campaigns for Kellogs Frosties, Tigers have taken a tumble in popularity and population. Like most ginger haired creatures, they seem to be the subject of persecution and unfortunate circumstance. See also the Red Squirrel and it's reduced population at the hands of the Grey Squirrel, the Fox chased all around the Village and fields, and Chris Evans. Tigers though will always struggle to maintain a balance in life because they are so unnatural.

This program is heavily biassed towards the Tiger side of things with only the occaisional other animal featured. The fact that the Tiger is an endangered species highlights its plight in regard to it's habitat. As our world spills over into theirs then they must adapt or move on. As Tigers ... Read More:

The quality of this series is truly remarkable and its title is not misleading: It reveals the private life of plants in a breathtakingly new way. It shows how varied the strategies of plants are in the struggle for survival and it sheds light on the intricate ways in which plants and animals have adapted to each other. The quality of the time-lapse photography in this six-part series is truly amazing. Camera movements, focus shifts and perfect lighting create dramatic time-lapse sequences with a quality unmatched by anything else that has been shown on TV. It's simply a class of its own. See how plants crawl, fight, and devour other plants and animals. The series also demonstrates how plants and animals live together, a relationship forged by half a billion years of co-evolution, and how ... Read More:

This Attenborough outing is a superb guide to all the choice preserved fossils on museum display up to 1989. In four 40 minute programmes David whisks us on a route march around all the 1989 cutting edge scientific techniques for reconstructing the lives of creatures preserved solely in rock. There's also some nifty dig sites where the excavators explain the various problems they have to overcome to remove entire specimens. There's CAT scanning, there's primitive computer reconstruction of burrows and the odd radio controlled flying pterosaur. Full marks to whoever excavated the primitive beaver burrow in its entirety - complete with an ex beaver at the bottom! And the hadrosaur dinosaur nests were incredible.

The final programme delves into all the great classic fossil communities ... Read More:

I remember watching this series back in 1987 in my gap year between school and university. It proved inspirational. Within a few weeks I decided to retrace Attenborough's steps by going to Egypt, marvelling at a fair number of the sites he visited. There is much beautiful film from many interesting locations around the Mediterranean. The series is much more anthropological than most of his others which could put some off but for me was one of the principal points of interest. The final episode about the despoilation of the Med is predictably dispiriting.

Overall a truly inspirational series which encouraged my fascination with the Mediterranean. The book of the series is also worth having and contains a great bibliography of related subject matter. Also worth reading is Eric Newby's brilliant ... Read More:
