Since its release I have heard and read mixed reviews mostly bad, these of course are from fans pissed off at the end of season 9! "The Truth" wasnt a very good or satisfying end to the series, as a hardcore fan I can certainly say. I suppose what people expected was something pretty damn spectacular here with this movie. We should expect that its the X Files for Peets sake. But many of the really cool episodes were written by writers other than Chris Carter, in fact I think you will find if you revise all your Box sets that the episodes written By Carter are the most lame. Kim Manners is working on Supernatural, Spotnitz is mostly on bigger movies while the rest are all over the board from CSI, Bones, the short lived 4400 right up to the new ... Read More:

To collect money for an investment, Jerry (Macy) sets a fake operation up for the kidnap of his wife, but it doesn't go according to plan.

The Coen brothers have made a name for themselves over the past twenty years and this 1996 film, written and directed by the pair cements them into the highest class of different and brilliant filmmakers.

The unusual plot opens with "This is based on a true story" when in fact it isn't, which will set the tone for a bizarre but highly intriguing viewing, made even more strange as the plot unfolds and the direction and cinematography are established.

This whole ideology of kidnapping gives the Coen brothers a great chance to dive deep into their unknowing way of thinking, and is ... Read More:

If an Australian seller hadn't misrepresented their Crosby,Stills, and Nash DVDs as Region 1, when in actuality they were Region 2s, I never would have invested in a Regions-free player, and began broadening my horizons, thereby finding this GEM to be not only out-of-print at home, but only available in Blu Ray ! We've never had a 2 disc edition that I'm aware of, and when this one arrived (QUICKLY I might add), my son and I devoured it ! Nearly,or just over 2 hours of extras is a real treat, on top of the crystal clear, vivid widescreen print of the film itself. Thank you AmazonUK.

I was told how great this film was by a few people prior to watching it. So it was with great anticipation that I fed it into my DVD player and started it up. I was really hoping I would marvel at this film and be spellbound by it. It started well with Daniel Day Lewis trapped in a mine shaft after falling and breaking his leg and I thought 'I'm going to enjoy this'. But then, I just didn't. Well, that's a slight lie, I did like it, just didn't love it. Out of the two films released at the same time to Oscar fanfare I much preferred the Coens No Country For Old Men. It may be that this film was a little slow paced, which isn't a bad thing at all (see my review of The Assasination of Jesse James) but in this setting it just didn't capture my imagination. Maybe I need to ... Read More:

This a definate 5 star movie. One of the best films ever made. Dont listen to anyone who says the shark looks fake because it looks a damn site better than any recent CGI attempts(Deep Blue Sea). Its got that whole Speilberg feel about it, the little town of Amity might as well be the same town in ET or Poltergiest.
Essentially its 2 movies. The first act follows Chief Brody as he discovers there is a great white shark off the coast of his little town, picking off swimmers. The second act follows Brody, Hooper and Quint as they try to track and catch said shark. The scene on board the Orca where Quint and Hooper compare scars, which then leads to the revelation that Quint is a survivor of the USS Indianappolis, is one of the finest acting performances of all time. ... Humphrey Bogart is on top form in this John Huston-directed classic film from 1941.

The age of the film is not really a factor with this new Special Edition, as the restored picture and sound are faultless and catapult the action onto the screen for maximum enjoyment.

The plot centres on the quest to obtain an elusive statuette (as named in the title of the film), but the item is really a 'MacGuffin' since the story is played-out to involve all the matters associated with getting it, rather than the Maltese Falcon itself being significant.

This allows the detective Sam Spade character played by Bogart to dominate the film, and the quality of his performance clearly demonstrates why he subsequently rose to stardom. He is simply magnificent ... Read More:

On the one hand, Misery is an excellent film. Many - if not all - of the characters are well cast, and very true to the book.

However, it has far less depth than the novel. For example, the book being written inside the book/film actually has a great deal of reference to the situation the author finds himself in, obviously basing the book around his life as Annie Wilkes' hostage.

In summary, read the book first. The film is pretty epic on its own, but it could have been so much better with the addition of a few extra scenes depicting the content of the novel being written, which would have shown more of Annie Wilkes' persona and added a great deal of irony to the situation.

Still, buy it.

When this was recently broadcast on British TV, I watched it, on my Widescreen TV & played back the 4.3 version that I had recorded some years ago, from/on, SKY movies on my 4.3 TV. In doing so I noticed that there was NO additional side footage, which meant that in order to upscale a 4 x 3 to 16 X 9 widescreen, the TV broadcaster had to crop 25% of the top & or bottom of the comparative 16 X 12 image. NB. the 3 in 4 X 3 is equal to, image length/4 - 25% therego since the broadcast image length = 16 then its (4 X 3) height/depth, = 12 not 9 which is = to 12 - 25%.
