I bought this film under the impression that it was great film, how wrong I was. The acting is wooden, the people seem like they are enjoying being stuck in a mall full of dead caniballs. The zombies make-up is appalling, they look crap, and the film is over 2 hours long, making it unbearable to watch. Avoid this trash at all costs and watch the remake as it is 100 times better.

I was really disappointed with this film. Everyone else seems to be comparing it to the original (which I haven't seen) and then basing it on it's originality to the original. But I'm going to base it on this version only. I did enjoy the zombie scenes. I thought they were perfectly gory and full of blood which is always good in this type of film. But the characters were so cliched! The guy Michael... how can the creators of this film try to pull him off as a hero? It just isn't happening. The hair doesn't work, the body doesn't work and the 'good guy in that stable job' attitude shows through way too much! And especially towards the end when he's standing on the pier with things blowing up in the background holding a gun... it's laughable! It looks ... Read More:

Romero once again adds to the canon with healthy measures of bloody paranoia, claustrophia and violence permeating the efforts of a dwindling number of living humans to find temporary respite from the growing numbers of zombie dead.

Reviewers are often fond of looking for some subtext within these films. Dawn of the Dead had its obvious message about consumerism - are these dead people behaving any differently from when they were alive? Probably not.

Here we can see the message is the brutal control of the civilian and scientific populations by a harried and panicked military group in the aftermath of the end of the society. These people have literally burrowed underground into the dark to survive. The sole doctor resorts ... Read More:

My first experience of Romero was through a haze of smoke watching Dawn of the Dead on late night TV. Expecting the usual late night horror flick to wash over me as I lost interest and drifted into unconsciousness I was gripped by an altogether different experience. An experience which dragged me completely into his world and despite poor special effects by today's standards evoked a true sense of dread which I shared with the main characters as they fought to preserve what they knew as their world dissolved around them. So impressed with the second of Romero's Dead quadrology that I had to explore the remaining films, and what better place to start than at the beginning. Night of the Living Dead throws you right in the mix straight away, he gives you no time ... Read More:

Anybody familiar with all the low-budget zombie B-movies out there will know exactly what to expect here: Bad writing, bad storyline, bad acting and gore. But that's why fans of these films watch them! They're so tragic they're funny!
As far as zombie B-movies go (and I've seen a lot) this is actually one of the better ones.
As for the title, it's generally a good idea with low-budget zombie films to ignore the title completely. Most of these films have their title repeatedly changed depending on what popular zombie films are out at the time.

This film is available under 3 different titles. Zombie, Zombi 2 and Zombie Flesheaters. Back in the late 70s Dario Argento did his own cut of Romero's Dawn Of The Dead, calling it Zombi, for the Italian and European market. Lucio Fulci was commitioned to exploit its success and do a cash in version which was called Zombi 2 (to make people think it was a sequel). It was then released in the US as Zombie and, eventually, in the UK as Zombie Flesheaters. It doesnt have the same class as Romero's stuff but its still one of the original classic zombie flicks. The gore is everywhere and the zombies are disgusting- the one area that did improve on Romero's work. If you do decide to watch this then please try to get hold of one of the imported versions as some of the best gore scenes (piece of ... Read More:

I have read elsewhere that this movie has nothing new to offer and therefore is not worth the attention. I disagree; even if it offers nothing new to the zombie genre, it's fun entertaining - and I personally like the 3D. You get 4 pairs of 3D glasses included so you can watch it with your mates with lots of 'Stella'. A fun engaging film that has so much more to offer than many films out there that have cost at least a fiver to make. Go for it, you just might enjoy it 'Barbara'!

I must admit, I much preferred John Russo's book Return of the Living Dead (the 1985 tie-in, not the original 1979 novel) to Dan O'Bannon's movie. Whilst I admit it was fun, I found some of the acting a little too annoying and the punk soundtrack was inappropriate in places. Now no doubt that comment has alienated a lot of readers, as many consider that one of the best zombie movies of all time (or certainly one of the funniest). But I must go out on a limb here and state that I found Return of the Living Dead 2 far more entertaining! The pace is tighter and the jokes are better executed (no pun intended). My only real flaw with it is, just like with the original, both James Karen and Thom Mathews are criminally underused, both reduced to whining supporting roles. And for those that love ... There are much worse films out there. The problem with this is that it is marketed as a zombie movie. However, the reality is that the film has the theme of possession. I'd complain more about the misleading nature of the advertising, but I only paid 32 pence! Can't really complain at that. The down side is that it can't share the same shelf of my prized zombie collection!
