As this appears to be the only region 2 version of this film, I was forced to buy it. Like other reviewers, I love the film, but am completely unimpressed with the "25th anniversary edition" DVD, hence the one star (it would have had 4 or 5). I probably won't even watch the special feature (note singular) as (a) it isn't about the film and (b) I don't believe in ghosts anyway so it would probably irritate me.

There also seems to be a very odd cut at 32:48, though I suppose it's possible that was on the original print - but it really looks to me as if some footage was missing. Rather disturbing.

Grade D-. Could do a lot better :(

Having read the star spangled reviews on "The Haunting" I excitedly entered in my card details and eagerly awaited it's arrival through my letterbox, sat down with a bottle of wine and an Indian and pressed Play.
Oh dear. Is everyone reviewing the same film here?! A lovely sinister looking manor house for the setting (filmed on location in Stratford-Upon-Avon)-looks promising, and some nice Borehamwood room sets... and lots of talking...and more talking...um...oh, sorry I nearly nodded off again...!
Over 100 minutes of film is devoted almost entirely to American actress Julie Harris' character arguing and ranting over her own insecurities to the other guests in the house. There is far too much dialogue and for me personally is completely ... Read More:

I really liked this film. Sequels can often be a real let down, but Poltergeist 2 explains why Carol Anne was chosen by the poltergeist, with a bit more insight into the family.

I found myself asking a few questions throughout the film - where was the older sister, and how did they get a real person so skeletal looking to play Kane. I looked it up and discovered that she was sadly strangled by her boyfriend in real life after the 1st film, quite shocking as I assumed it was just due to a money dispute or something similar that caused her to be absent. As for Kane, he was so skeletal looking because he was dying from stomach cancer and passed away in the middle of filming, hence the appearance of the beast towards the end of the film.

Heather O' Rourke's final film and it could have been special had it not been for the occasionally dire acting and dialogue. The man who plays Henry Kane is not the same moist ugly dude from the second film and there is nothing creepy other than the fact they have tried to make him look creepy by sticking plastercene on his face. Some FX are simple but very spooky the scene where Carol Anne is being pulled into the puddle is impressive. And some mirror scenes are well done too however this remains the weakest link but deserves credit as Heather O'Rourke was a great little actress and delivered a truly charming and sweet performance once again.

Thirteen Ghosts is a remake of a 1960's film of the same title created by the brilliant William Castle. The film follows a man and his children who become trapped in a ghost ridden house that they've inherited from Cyrus (the man's eccentric uncle.) Trapped along with them are a psychic, a lawyer, and a ghost hunter.

Thirteen Ghosts is a bit different from your standard horror, and it goes without saying that I doubt that this it's the kind of film that everyone will find scary. But for me at least it worked. As this is probably one of the greatest ghost films I've ever seen. The bathroom scene especially, which has been done really well comes to mind. Not to mention when the lawyer 'splits.' The plot is solid and progresses well, keeping you both scared ... Read More:

Bought this when I saw it cheap after about the first 10 minutes you know you have cocked up and should have kept your money in your pocket. This is total crap the acting and so called story is below average I really thought this would be good but it was a big let down. The blood and gore is quite tame so if you like your horrors with a bit more of a bite I would advise you to stay clear of this. If you enjoy your films which is mostly in the dark and limited scares and gore this is for you. I recently watched the second film Return To House On Haunted Hill and that was a slightly better but don't expect to much because you won't find it with either film.

Not sure what the other review expected from this movie, true it aint gonna win anyone any oscers or best film award, in fact i dare say its one of Wilders lessa known movies! Still. i found this movie "Simply Charming" to me along with young frankinstien, Willy wonka, one of Wilders finer films. It's entertaining, harmless perfect late night or sunday afternoon viewing. I guess in the same sense as Young Frankinstien. Give it a try! its dirt cheap and trust me, a grand old film! Reason behind 5 Stars? purly to balance out the star review score. should really be about a 3 to 4 (good to very good) ;-)

This movie is along the lines of Ringu and The Grudge. Scary long haired dead girl roaming around killing little asian teenagers. It sounds quite unoriginal so far doesn't it. But don't worry it gets better the more you watch it.

The movie itself is about a girl who lost her memory and tries to recover it whilst her friends are being found dead by drowning. That part is quite ordinary with some good creepy moments. the second half of the movie is where the story gets really interesting and different.

The movie holds some excellent plot twists and a fantastic scene where the scary ghost girl crawls out of a puddle on the floor. The actors/actresses are really good at their parts and the music is very well done.

I would easily recommend this ... Read More:

Loved this film - great effects and acting, and the soundtrack as great too (especially My Little Box)

Only thing that confuses me is where the bodies went (surely there would be skeletons left..) but overall i really enjoyed it.

Big plus is the beautiful Desmond Harrington who does the smouldering mysterious stranger part very well, turning from mr naive nice guy to mr evil in the blink of an eye.

I refused to watch this film for some time after it was made - this was because I do not like re-makes of any picture, and I was so in love with the original, I did not want to see another version of it. However, I suppose mere curiosity got the better of me! There are two sides of approaching this film; one very critical, and the other, well, let's not say exactly acclaim, but 'different' would be a better word. I will begin with the criticisms;

Firstly, this movie relies totally upon special effects, and without these, you have absolutely nothing... Any viewer expecting more will most certainly be disappointed - whether you've seen the original or not! The second thing is, the story; Shirley Jackson would be spinning in her grave if she knew for one ... Read More:
