This is the seventh box set taking the excellent 'Sopranos' to it's inconclusive conclusion. The final nine episodes included here are of the same high standard as those before it and continues the build up of tension started in Season six part 1. Anybody who has watched the show and has got to this late stage in the saga will not be needing a review to decide on a purchase, you're going to buy it anyway!!. To those people it is an excellent buy. i'm just a little disappointed that the cost has remained substantially higher than all the series before it. You've got to buy it to complete the set and they know that! For this point alone i've reduced the score to four stars.

In the first season we are introduced to the Soprano family. The most impressive thing here is that we're not just introduced to `the family' but we're introduced, quite intimately, to Tony Soprano's immediate family, wife, daughter and son. Like the shows creator David Chase said on the dvd extras, this is a story about a gangster who is living the same life we all are, taking his children to school and putting food on his families table. That's what makes this show so culturally valuable. It doesn't just illuminate the clichéd assumption of crime families but it really strips these human beings down to the rudiments of their very existence. seem to have a different opinion from so many other viewers, since I really enjoyed the first half of season six. Seeing Tony get shot, not by season one's physically and mentally vigorous Uncle Junior, as I had kept anticipating that season, but by the toothless demented Uncle Junior, believing he was shooting someone else entirely was priceless irony. I loved the part with Tony in the coma in our world, while -wherever he was - he was exactly what he had always dreaded being - a nobody. Worse, he's a traveling salesman who is "trapped" and unable to get home. When Tony comes out of his coma, he vows to change and take every day as a gift, but later he is gradually pulled back into his old ways, since his position as boss really gives him no alternative. ... Series 3 of the Sopranos is magnificent. Nothing I can say can do it justice.

This is without doubt the best series however it recieved heavy criticism due to the level of violence depicted. However although the violence is graphic and often uncomfortable to watch it is crucial for the development of the characters. Furio in particular has a challenging moral dillema which keeps the viewer on a razors edge throughout!

I didn't bother watching the Sopranos when it was first on TV, but someone gave me the first series as a gift, and I've been working my way through them since. Series 5 is actually one of my favourites. I was quite baffled to come on here and find several one star reviews, complaining about various things like the lack of sense of humour. The show is definitely dark, but there is plenty of amusing parts. For example, Janice (not one of my favourite characters) turning over a new leaf after going to anger management classes, and Tony's subsequent baiting of her. There is some great drama, and some very unexpected moments. Can't wait to get Series 6! In summary - top quality TV, and a must buy.

My wife and I are half way through the second series of 'The Sopranos'. We both really enjoyed series one, but have already become a bit bored with series two, since it doesn't seem to take things a great deal further than series one did, and we both agree that we probably will not bother getting further series, even if someone lends them to us - luckily we borrowed series two. I have given this DVD three stars since the acting is good and the stories are okay. I've watched series one of 'The Wire' and 'Oz' and series one and two of 'Deadwood' and 'Rome' and think that all four of these HBO series are better than 'The Sopranos'. For far better on-screen Mafia antics than 'The Sopranos' has to offer, I would recommend the first two 'Godfather' films, 'Goodfellas', 'Casino' and 'Once ... Read More:

Although the show itself deserves a 5-star rating, I had to give this sale 4 stars because of the price. I have been a fan pf the Sopranos from the very start and can watch all seasons over and over again. However, after buying this on amazon for almost £120 I then saw a deluxe version box set (with extra footage and special features) for almost half the price! Nevertheless the show is brilliant, the DVDs are fantastic quality so it was well worth the money!

So the series that had it all has ended. For all of you that missed this when run on Channel 4 and its offshoots over the past eight years or so snap this up. HBO have delivered the best TV drama bar none over the past decade (sorry beeb but there is more to quality drama than crinolines and bonnets). The magnificent Band of Brothers, the glossy, sumptuous Rome,the peerless The Wire and the quirky Deadwood and Carnivale. This demonstates that the creative talent is out there but constrained by the pressure of Nielsen ratings and the blandness of network TV strictures in the US of A. The punchy scripts, the humour and the courageous character arcs of Davids Chase's writing were a breath of fresh air on first viewing.
