now although i admit the film is confusing if you haven't played the game it's still a great film i watched it and i hadn't played the game and i pieced together most of it aprt from the characters my advice if you haven't played the game is to ignore the plot and focus on the action aside from that it's a complex intelligent beautiful action filled film i advise to watch

I think this film is wonderful. The CG animation is amazing - there are moments, particularly the character close-ups, where you can't quite be sure whether you're watchig real actors. This film bombed big time at the cinema, and one of the reasons suggested was actually the fact that the characters were so life-like they were almost creepy. Another reason is perhaps the fact that this is a stand alone piece of work and has no relationship with any of the Final Fantasy RPGs, which probably infuriated the fan boys. However, the story is mature and deals with mature issues - namely friendship, love, death and the afterlife, the individuals part in the big picture etc etc, but it's also a fully fledged action film with some pretty amazing set pieces and really ... I agree with pretty much all of the above reviews.

I would like to comment on the b-ray presentation, Picture quaality in nigh on suberb unfortunately, I did notice several scenes littered throughout the movie where backgrounds suffered from posterization. Now, I'm not sure if these flaws were present in the original picture or not. Scenes like Aki's ship landing in the opening 3:20, in the council chambers at 21:07 etc. For me that cost the review 1 star.

Sound quality is faultless.

If the film red 13 was talking about was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, they need to know that it is only inspired by the final fantasy game series, where as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is not only based on the Final Fantasy VII game it is also a continuation of the game being set two years after it. But no other cgi film can touch this one except maybe Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and the upcoming Resident Evil: Degeneration.

i recently went out and bought this series shortly after watching it all round a friends house,(he had a downloaded copy of all episodes) the series is ok, but they could do well with introducing kaze soil system into games as it would make for a highly entertaining experience, if your after a series that is both action packed and entertaining this may be for you, my only problem was it all ended to abruptly, but then again so did the other series they made (star ocean ex) both were great series but could do with an additional 5 or so episodes just to tie up what loose ends they left in the story
