From acclaimed manga creator Ken Akamatsu comes the renowned harem-anime comedy - Love Hina.
15 years ago, Keitaro Urashima made a wish to a little girl he liked...the promise was to get into Tokyo University together and live happily ever after. However, these friends were split up, but Keitaro still wants to fulfil his promise...however, back in the present day, Keitaro is now 20 years old and has failed the Tokyo U exam 3 times in a row. However, this is the least of his problems when he unwittingly steps in as the new manager for the 'all girls' Hinata apartment.

Love Hina is an anime that is incredibly popular and is often thought of when thinking of the harem genre, however in my opinion the series is overrated and ... Read More:

The disc effectively covers the manga story in volume 7 where Keitaro, after falling asleep in the final exams, in a fit of shame decides to leave once and for all. He ends up on a ship bound for the south seas where, who should he bump into but Seta! In the meantime, Naru decides that our hero isn't going to get away with it that easily and sets off to drag him back home...

Of all of the Love Hina DVD's released in the UK, this is probably the weakest. First, because the amount of material is poor; the episode is less than an hour long and the amount of extras is pitiful for the price. Second, the story is a little bit rushed compared to the manga. This aside, there are some really warm moments and plenty to laugh at.

It's Christmas and Keitaro, Naru and Mutsumi are studying hard for the TokyoU exam on Christams Eve, but Keitaro and Naru in particular are very distracted. How long can Keitaro last without putting his foot in his mouth?

Right now, this is probably my favourite episode of the series. Most of the older characters get some real space to develop, while the big issue still hovers for our hero and heroine. Misunderstanding and confusion seem to control the characters for most of the episode and each of them has plenty to think about in the run-up to Christmas Eve, where confessions can bring happiness.

What's great about this episode is that, under the running jokes and Benny Hill-style moments (which are still amusing) is something ... Read More:

A fun collection of episodes, with the gang out at the beach for summer. As usual Keitaro seems to bear the brunt of the troubles, while the Hinata traditonal Son Goku play doesn't go quite to plan as a result of Seta's unexpected arrival.

This disc is probably worth the money alone for the heart-achingly beautiful orchestral arrangement of the theme song at the end of episode 18. Quite stunning, even if only for just over a minute and a half!

Keitaro and Naru have been cramming for the Todai entrance exams for several months. Finally the moment arrives, but the things on their minds get in the way and both manage to fail. Independently of each other, they go away to mull things over for a while but, things being what they are, Keitaro and Naru are not apart for long and end up in Kyoto together. It is also the first time we meet the lovely Mutsumi and, fleetingly, Seta. Misunderstandings ensue (mostly stoked up by Kitsune) and the other residents, fearing the worst, go off in pursuit.

Episode 7 talks about Naru's graduation and introduces us to Kentaro (yes, KEN-taro, who also crops up in later episodes), who also has an interest in Naru. Episode 8 is an odd dream-inspired story with ... Read More:

Alright, so there aren't that many extras, but who cares?

The quality of the material is what matters and this is where Love Hina scores pretty high. Although the series doesn't quite offer the depth and complexity of the manga, it does fairly well. For those who have read the manga in particular, the nature of the relationship between Keitaro, Naru and Mutsumi only begins to be explored here and scratches the surface, where the manga talks about things in much more detail.

The main reason for this relative lack of depth, I think, is that this is only because more series were intended to follow to provide that closure. Judged on its own merits the Love Hina anime is funny, sad, cheeky and good-natured in its progress. This volume in ... Read More:
