I tried to open minded about this film when I first went to the cinema, determining that "I'm a star wars fan, and no matter how bad it is, it's still Star Wars."

That feeling lasted about um... a second and a half from the start of the film. It started off fine with the, "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away." I smiled, prepared myself for the classic theme and it... never came. I had been told it was 'remixed' beforehand, but I was expecting something not too different, the new composer didn't even keep the first 4 notes.

Then we move onto the 'Opening Crawl' - which didn't exist. Another staple of Star Wars, even found in the games, gone, poofed completely. It was replaced with a narrator speaking over a kind ... Read More:

Yes, the Star Wars cash cow is on show again presented nicely so it might win "best of breed". I suppose in a way this is George Lucas's revenge on the public, who pestered him for the original trilogy on dvd and then pestered him some more for the original original versions on dvd. My only surprise is that it doesn't say Limited Edition (yawn)

OK where to start on this truly horrific crime of a film?

Jar Jar Binks may actually be the worst character in the history of cinema - all those animators and actors who worked to realise this affront to human decency should find a revolver and do the decent thing.

Why do all American kids have problems talking properly? Do they think that speaking like a cutesy 3 year old makes them endearing? Jake whatshisname (Anakin) should never ever be allowed in front of a camera again.

Who came up with the 'story'? My ship is broken, want to come with us, Kid? Seems to be about it.

Also,Why is it that in 'attack of the clones' Anakin has aged about ten years, but Padme is (amazingly) about 3 years older than she ... Read More:

*Contains Spoilers*

In my review for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace I wrote how the light and bright Phantom reflected the time in which it was released. 1999 was the dawn of the new Millennium and hope and freshness abounded during what was something of a short golden age for Western Society. If The Phantom Menace was a movie for its time, then 2005's dark and desperate Revenge of the Sith was also a movie of its time and for today. As the world stands on the edge of global despression and we continue with uncertain wars and the face the prospect of ever more sophisticated and outrageous terrorism many of us are feeling a sense of despair - Revenge of the Sith reflects that sense of despair and unease really quite profoundly. This film transends ... Read More:

After the disappointment of Eps2 and 3, the Clone Wars goes a long way towards rekindling the excitement I've always associated with Star Wars. It returns to the non-stop action rollercoaster feel of the Luke Skywalker days, where the heroes gallop across the galaxy from one hot spot to the next, light-sabres blazing and blasters, err, blasting.

The style of animation takes some getting used to: it's nothing like a realistic or slick as Pixar, so you won't be seeing images like those in the feature-length Beowulf or Final Fantasy films. Instead it merges the Star Ward universe with some mange/anime styles to create a different, 2D experience. Where this works especially well is with the giant space cruisers (every bit as onimous as the models in Ep1, I feel), and with ... Read More:

This review is based on watching the "original theatrical version" (1977) which is on the Bonus Disc in this 2 Disc DVD.

There is stellar charm from C3PO, R2D2, Princess Leia, Skywalker, and Hans Solo. The pace of the film is also very good. The audience follows the story much through the eyes of narrators C3PO and R2D2. That, ladies and gentleman, is why this film is pretty innovative.

Star Wars doesn't really become truly galactic until Empire Strikes Back.

Return of the Jedi was my favourite film as a kid growing up when there was only the original trilogy and with the Star Wars saga now complete it still remains my favourite. The first part of the movie is in my opinion some of the past Star Wars adventure out of all six films covering the famous rescue of Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt with still impressive action sequences such as the rancor and sail barge battles. The second half really delivers a satisfying conclusion to the story on all front with the classic intercutting of three distinct battles all being crucial to the resolution of the story. Stunning effects still in this day and age and a really emotional stoyline make for in my opinion the best conclusion the Star Wars saga could have hoped for.

DVD : Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes IV-VI) [1977]
Nothing polarises people like Star Wars. For many of us, it was a fundamental part of growing up. We watched the films, we fell in love with the universe of Star Wars, we bought the toys. Star Wars is, in many ways, part of our childhood. And being so universally loved makes it difficult to take a step back and review it objectively. Star Wars is either something you love, or don't care about, and there's little middle ground.

So how does one review something that means so much to you dispassionately? With difficulty. Difficult to see, dispassionately this is.

So what are these films? They're not the same way you remember them.

This is classic film-making : the type of film-making that changed the shape of films and filmgoing. Despite being in the top ten films ... Read More:
