Halloween surely remains, thirty years on, the definitive `Teens in peril' film. I use this term because `Horror' or `Slasher' do not apply here. Halloween is economical, if not entirely bereft, of either horror or slash and it is this economy which gives the film most of its strength, although many may consider it dated. There is very little in the way of story, special effects, characterisation, gore and even the body count is surprisingly low. The killings do not start until well into the film, apart from one at the start of the film, which sets up the story, such as it is.

There's a killer on the loose of course and the late, great Donald Pleasance is wonderfully sinister as the psychiatrist who is on his tail. In addition ... Read More:

I love these movies, some of the best Horror around.
BUT THESE FILMS ARE STILL CUT.. the running time given here and on the box is wrong, these times are the American edtions, if you watch the films you will see they are shorter than the time given on the box, altogether around 30 minutes in total {4/5 minutes each film}.
Plus there is no three-d glasses..

Still worth getting though.

This film seems to be one that people love or hate? Generally I dislike remakes as pointless exercises that are pale imitations of the (often better) originals e.g. The Grudge, Assault On Precinct 13, Gone In 60 Seconds. However if they add something to the original they can be worthwhile.
The original Halloween is an absolute classic horror film and the grandfather of the slasher genre. What Rob Zombie does with his version is to give us an insight into Michael Myers, that is absent in the original. The therapeutic relationship between Dr Loomis and Michael is emphasised and the obsession with masks that facilitates his withdrawal from reality. This relationship doesn't cloud Lumis' perception of Myers; he knows that he is evil incarnate, but he has an understanding ... Read More:

A series that ought never have been a series. Oh look, he's back. And he's wearing something that looks like it's made of papier mache. Seriously, stick to Carpenter's film.

Nowhere near as good as Carpenter's film, but worth it all the same. Efficient direction, cheeky in-jokes (Curtis' mother, Janet Leigh cameoes in a motherly role) and Curtis of course lights up the screen. This is the best of the sequels. And just think; it only took them six films to reach it...

Craven's "Scream" is a masterpiece, it can't be denied. The intricate references to previous horror-movie greats is fantastic and Craven voices his thoughts on the horror genre throughout the film through the character Randy, a movie buff.
There are many plot twists and turns that make for edge-of-your-seat viewing. I loved this film and I highly recommend it to any horror fan. I also recommend you buy the soundtrack - it's awesome.
