This is a brilliant film, up there with his "Pan's Labyrinth" and even better than "Devil's Backbone" which it in some ways resembles - a ghost story involving a children's home. A film about the fierce love between parent and child, which transcends death. I loved the bittersweet ending. It is not a horror film, so if you like horror movies, choose something else.

There are good things in this movie, but plot is not one of them. The initial build up - the lost guy, the two mysterious women next door with their strange requests and their labyrinthine apartment - promises much, with shades of John Fowles' "Magus". However, the movie builds up too quickly to a single shockingly violent sex scene and then rather loses any sense of direction for the remaining two thirds of its running time. Clearly the labyrinth is a metaphor for what is happening inside John's (the protagonist) head. The denouement is therefore not that surprising, but wraps up the plotline neatly. However, for a short movie, it spends too much time lost between a short build-up and an equally short conclusion.

Good things are the photography ... Read More:

The 2 film versions of Lewis Carroll's ALICE'S ADVENTURES under GROUND (later to become Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) that, in my opinion, capture the adult implications, politics and satire of the book are:

Jan Svankmajer's ALICE which is indeed a classic film and quite terrifying in parts
and
Jonathan Miller's ALICE IN WONDERLAND (BBC 1966) which is an equally unmissable film
as Mr. Carroll writes:

" ...... everyone must have prizes ......" make yourself a date NOW to watch BOTH MOVIES !! or "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!!!!!!"

Well, I guess I can start off this review by saying that this is solid proof that Euro-Horror and it's director's are so far ahead of us Americans when it comes to the horror genre. While our studios are continuing to crank out remakes, and basically recycling stuff that have sat in the can for years - it are the European filmmakers who are out there whipping up new and imaginative ideas like they usually do.

From French Directing duo, Alexandre Bustillo, Julien Maury, comes INSIDE, a film that exploits a subject that surely has to be any mother's nightmare - having their child taken away from them. Now, I suppose that this would be hard for any mother, regardless the age of the child - but it has to be that much harder when the child is still in womb. In ... Read More:

While the sex/violence is a bit uncomfortable at times, i think that anyone over 18 will appreciate the whole 'sex and death' link that recurs throughout this series. The story seems to make much less sense in this dubbed version and the constant reference to the 3 similar sounding worlds and all the characters having similar names gets quite confusing (Nagumo, Agumi, Megumi, Amano.... and more).

I saw the Japanese Audio version when i was younger, and wanted to see if it was as good as i remember it (not ghost in the shell 'good', ive got nothing better to watch 'good'). Overall id say this is worth seeing, but only as a reminder of where manga has come from, and where it is today, of course the japanese audio version would be a must see, but this dubbed version ... I bought this because of the over the top gore and that is exactly what I got. We're talking: severed limbs and stumps geysering blood like a fireman's hose, spurting finger stumps, jetting necks, amputations and slashings of all kinds.

We're also talking over the top characters: who shrug off nails in the head and amputations and can take more hits than Godzilla before keeling over, who cackle as they maim, mutilate and murder innocents for the slightest excuse (or none at all but because they -the yakuza boss, his wife, and son -happen to be gleeful sadists).

And then it gets really silly. Three red-clad ninjas announce, halfway through a fight with our two heroines, that they are The Junior High School Ninja Squad. Parents of four children killed by our heroines ... Read More:

The Feamale Vampire is one of Francos best movies (the best perhaps?) and an excellent addition to the euro horror genre. The film is complimented by a superb music score from Daniel White and of course the alluring Lina Romay. The best dvd option is the region 1 disc from Image as it is uncut in a nice 16:9 transfer and adds on some alternate scenes. The uk dvd has been cut by the BBFC.

This is one unique movie. I'm slowly becoming a fan Argento and this is so far my favorite of his films, though it should be noted that I have not yet seen all his films. There's so much visual style one can't help but be swept along. The story is also quite good which is not the case for some of his films. There are several gory scenes which are masterfully well done and the film's atmosphere is eerie and solid throughout. Argento is aided heavily by Goblin's music which is really good particularly in "Suspira".

In here we have David Hemmings plays a jazz musician who witnesses a murder and starts investigating the crime himself. A little bit of Hitchcock here but Argento creates a unique style that's all his. Basically that's a murder mystery with a touch of gore in it. I would not call ... Read More:

One of my top 5 fav Italian giallos-not as blood thirsty as most giallos but a good serial killer story-this version is a great quality transfer but what makes this movie for me is Ennio Morricone's great haunting music track-def one of his very best.
