My brother just bought this for me (I put him up rent free for months when he came back from traveling). One of the best things he has ever got me. There are five DVDs and I've already watched three, I've only had it a week. When you watch it your just in awe of the scenery, it's beautiful. There is a purposefully made score for it that just adds to the enjoyment. As for people that say they can't hear David Attenborough because of the music, they must be deaf the music always quietens down when he talks. I love the Planet Earth Diaries parts, it's very enjoyable to watch. I may be wrong but I think this was the first or first major nature progamme to be filmed fully in HD and it's all the better for it.

The wet bits with the animals are well filmed although some of the animals look like they are playing up to the camera at times. The underwater bits don't look real in places especially with the multicoloured tiny fizzers. Also the dolphins are singled out as something special like in most fish films, but they are just a fish! This is since Flipper set the benchmark of what to expect of a fish. The documentary would have scored higher if it left out the dolphins and made Dave say 'tuna' not 'tuna' as he pronounces it. He says 'tuna' as in 'tooner' where I say 'tuna' as in 'choona'. He's not American!

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said but... this series shows some of the most eye-popping, jaw-dropping, mind-boggling images you're ever likely to see. If you like nature programmes (in fact, even if you don't) it's impossible to imagine you won't be blown away by this documentary series...

This is an excellent series with true BBC investigation and great contribution from experts and people that lived during the times that some of the programs refer to. It is definitely worthwhile buying and watching the whole series and it gives many hours of entertainment at a very good price. I actually think that buying the 3 series in one box is a great advantage and worth the extra money as you can not get enough of it.Great value! Please go ahead and buy all 3 and you will enjoy it for sure!!

No doubt, this could have been a very fine documentary. The tribes presented are among the least known and most fascinating on the planet. Therefore, footage of any kind concerning their life is valuable. The problem is that, watching the series, you get the feeling that it is mostly focused on Bruce Parry himself, and how he manages to survive under impossible circumstances. In almost every single scene we see Parry trying to show us how well adapted he has become within the tribe: eating beetles and rats, building his hut, climbing trees, taking hallucinogenic drugs, urinating among the reindeer, or simply having a good time with the local people. From my 7 year old boy right up to my 77 year old dad, we found this really wonderful. I didn't think we would learn so many new things that are so important to our basic understanding of our world. EVERY SCHOOL should show this dvd to the kids and more than once so that it can be fully absorbed. It is about the core of our existence!

I am really looking forward to this set of DVDs of the BBC2 documentary of the amazon life. It takes me back instantly to how tranquil the amazon really is and how much fun we had when i went. This documentary basically illustrates how life on the amazon is like for the people living there, working there and for travellers seeking eco-tourism. The 5 part series is not shown in the light of creatures willing to kill you at every opportunity, but shows what importance the rainforest has and what it has to offer us in terms of life..it also touches on the destruction in a very non-biased way. This was done really well although showing the necessities of the people who have no other options. I will definately add this to my collection ... Read More:

Having seen Baraka on its theatrical release on New Zealand's biggest screen I have been longing to re-capture that feeling of utter awe and emotional connection that occurred when I first saw it. That day has finally come and their incredible remastering and high resolution scanning of the 65mm negative, as detailed in the accompanying mini-documentary, was the final stroke of vision and foresight which will make Baraka the standard by which other analogue transfers are measured. I was, all over again, stunned and amazed by this incredibly beautiful film where every shot is an absolute masterpiece and some of which leave me literally with goose flesh and almost moved to tears by the magnificence of it all. Truly a must have for any Blu Ray player owner.

The Planet earth series is an amazing collection of video footage that only the BBC seem to be able to capture in so much detail. 5 Disc collection in HD DVD. The HD DVD is stunning, the best HD DVD I have seen, on this format and blu-ray, colour's are bright, water is crystal clear and close up details is stunning. Sound via Dolby Digital is very good, subtle enough to make you feel part of the wildness. A DVD worth every penny, it is education, enjoyable and amazing.
