After Soprano's came to an end last year over here in blighty last year I was wondering would another series come along to give it a run for it's money. I'm not sure what people think of David Chase's Mafia Epic but I can imagine cries of overrated being called out, I personally found utterly engrossing TV and simply sublime, I was somewhat sad to see it end but grateful Chase chose it to go out on high and yes I was perfectly happy with the opened ended abrupt ending to the final episode. I appreciate a movie studio who can give the audience a knowing wink while poking copious amounts of fun at itself. Disney delivers! The movie is both a parody of and a loving tribute to Disney movies. There's not a single dramatic convention or stereotype that doesn't get lampooned, yet the story has a lot of heart and you root for the characters. The songs are as fun as ever - kids will enjoy it as a basic fairytale, adults will laugh and smile as they recognise the clever jokes and references. Damn you Amazon for not allowing 10 stars! Along with "the Wire" the best television series of this or for that matter any other decade. The scripts are sharp enough to cut diamonds. The characters are the most memorable to hit the screens in years. And with Martin Sheen, Richard Schiff, Alison Janney, Rob Lowe, Alan Alda et al you have the strongest actors on the box. There are also occasions when Aaron Sorkin's scripts are transcendent. Let's hope that Barrack Obama pulls him to write some of the forthcoming inauguration speech (ok it should be great in any case). It would be up there with Kennedy's or Roosevelt. The West Wing, The Wire, The Soprano's, Six Feet Under etc are all evidence that while the American century may be over they still dominate the planet ... Read More:

Fawlty Towers is (of course) as good as comedy gets and this package is a bargain. However completists may want to be patient. Rumour has it that John Cleese is preparing commentaries for all 12 episodes in preparation for an extra special re-release. I believe he needs the money to pay for his divorce!

The film was great to watch. Several songs were good and it was overall a enchanting film. The only let down was the ending but other then that it was a really good film.

I watched this film 'cold', without looking at trailers and reading reviews or 'the book'. So her is my lasting impression. The characters were excellent and the story moved through action sequences and general dialogue without a pre-set pattern so, in short, the viewer could be shocked at any moment. This was used to great effect in many scenes, to the benefit of the storyline, until the 'end' of the film. However, after watching almost everything there was to see, then getting ready for some sort of finale to answer a whole list of questions and discover the, 'who', 'what', 'where', 'when', 'why' of the whole film, we are suddenly greeted with the 'end credits'. I'm not normally a fan of "family entertainment" or "fantasy" films ("Lord of the Rings" being an exception.) Even the thought of sitting through Harry Potter (I had to turn it off after 10 minutes) bores me. However, when I saw that Danes, De Niro and Pfeiffer were starring in "Stardust", I decided to give it a go. From beginning to end, it was a delight. I won't go into details about the plot, that's been written about enough. One of the great pleasures of the film is the light hand with which it is handled without ever diminishing the intensity of the various aspects of the story: the romance, the evil, the adventure.
