1* isn't for the film (which is 5* and then some) but for this DVD.

ITS A DUAL SIDER DVD - yep, flip over halfway through the movie, you know when you're nice and comfy?, snuggled up on the sofa with the wife? enjoying one of cinema's defining films?

YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND TURN THE BLOODY DVD OVER TO WATCH THE SECOND HALF OF THE FILM!!!!!

I mean, please accept my apologies, but I thought we were in the 21st century? I havent had to turn anything over since listening to my 'Best of the Clash' LP back in the early 90's pre CD days!

Why this DVD is still available I don't know.

Buy the special edition instead and watch one of cinema's greatest achievements UN-INTERRUPTED.

Comparisons to the equally beautiful 'In The Mood for Love' are well targeted here and not just because of the Tony Leung connection. Lust, Caution exhibits the same muted (almost mutilated) sexual tensions against a back drop of middle-class, Western-obsessed indifference which suffocates in a vacuum of talking without communicating. Indeed, the title is like a road sign for those wishing to escape the numbness of existence: Danger follows if unheeded...

The performances are sublime as is the photography and editing (the Mah-Jong sequences deserve a special award) but it is the direction which triumphs. Ang Lee is the unchallenged master of cinema which finds beauty in an ugly world (The Ice Storm sprung to mind on several occassions) ... Read More:

Of course it's a silly 'superman' gets the bad guys film... but at least it should put pressure on one of the worse regimes on the planet. Google burmacampaign and be a bit of a rambo yourself

this is a decent war film but is certainly not a classic , firstly we have got eastwood and burton 2 great actors but the rest of the cast are nobodies and it shows.
secondly the film is set in the snow covered mountains and grey stone castle to say its got wonderful scenery is a false statement its either all white or all grey to my viewing.
the film however is fast paced with plenty of action although it seems quite dated which is strange when you see war films made 10 years earlier that are still very fresh , {bridge on the river kwia} i guess it was a star studded cast and proper scenery that made that film memorable.where eagles dare will surely entertain you for over 2 hours and should be added to your war collection but it isn't in my top 10 war movies.

I resisted going to see this film at the cinema as it didn't seem like my cup of tea. But after a colleague kept going on about how great it was, I gave in and watched it. I wish I hadn't bothered. I really cannot see what all the fuss is about. Now, if you've read any other DVD reviews of mine, you'll know I do like superhero films, sci-fi films etc. But Transformers really left me cold. It didn't keep my interest at all, but I had to watch it through to the end just to see if it got better. I'm afraid it didn't.

There's no doubt that the special effects are impressive - but I just thought this comic book origination didn't translate well to screen. I can't really put my finger on what turned me off, but there was so much about it that had me rolling my eyes (example, ... Read More:

This is cracking stuff. Plenty of stunts, good one liners, car chases, gunfights - in fact it's pretty much perfect action cinema. A guaranteed good evening's TV.

On this occasion I found myself liking the movie more than the book. What stood out for me as a child was the wolf figure who stated at the end of the film this startling notion that people who forgot their dreams and lost their hopes were easy to control and who ever has the control has the power ... I wondered how that could come about. Now I see that behind the film was possibly a critique on our modern standard of living and the world of Fantasia, a world of the spirit, imagination and dreams does not want to allow it's self to be usurped by mans casual disregard for those qualities. The film asserts that real freedom is the freedom of the mind and to have self belief in the face of astonishing obstacles is the only way to move forward. This is a modern day fairy tale which I believe has ... Read More:

great boxset, well worth getting, just 1 small thing: I was surprised to notice a typing error onto the boxset. on the top it says "complete series on 36 DVD" and on the sides it says "complete series on 32 DVD"... for the price we pay, this could have been avoided... dont you think?
nevermind, it does not affect the quality of the serie
