Basically Young Indiana Jones meets every famous name from the first quarter of the 20th Century. However, there seem to have been a few very basic historical blunders made. For example in one scene of Episode One we see Indiana and parents crossing the Mediterranean in 1908 on what appears to be the Queen Mary. In another scene at Port Said, there appears to be a large aircraft carrier in the background. Thats just episode one, so I'm looking forward to other cockups in later episodes.
The remastered picture and sound are very good, but the acting is iffy, the scripts badly written, and the storyline plods along at snails pace. I remember watching the series in the 1990s, and some of the episodes were pretty good. Maybe time has dimmed ... Read More:

The 'motion capture' is utterly pointless. Why not just use the actors as usual; you've filmed them anyway! It just proves a distraction in what is a very dull film. The miscasting and modern dialect ensure that the film comes over as a complete mess.

Even the 3rd film, which is almost definitely the weakest of the four, is fantastic. The opening scene with the bomb in the skyscraper is a classic, and shows Gibson and Glover working as a pair like no one else ever really has. Each film is a near-perfect mix of humour and action, although number one is distinctly less comical and a lot darker. They're the kind of films that never get tedious no matter how many times you've seen them. And unlike Die Hard, the final 'let's rehash an old franchise to make some more money' entry doesn't suck! One of the best film series of all time.

Sorry if this is an 'anorak' review. If you never seen it before then read the rest of the reviews and go and buy it.

I bought this because I had the original BBC broadcast on VHS,but with half of one episode missing! I also have the Director's cut on DVD and whilst this is still good, it doesn't create the tension as well as the full series (as several others have said). I really hoped it was going to be exactly the same as the BBC broadcast but I don't think it is. I think a few scenes have been shifted around (the party after escaping from the destroyer) and I'm sure some of the scenes of the aftermath of the attemped Gibralter breakthrough have been shuffled and some cut. I think this spoils some of the relief you feel as they start to control ... Read More:

Please note that this DOES NOT include Sharpe's Challenge. Despite being informed previously, Amazon continue to advertise that it does. There are several other suppliers advertising the same - perhaps they are all getting their text from the same place. But I can confirm 100% that the Amazon description is incorrect and that Sharpe's Challenge IS NOT INCLUDED. Score is based on site listing not the product.

Simply put, this is a fun movie to watch and it never gets old. A middle aged storyline with modern twists. Lots of emotion and although it's cheap it isnt one of those rubishy knock off films you get out the bargain bin at Sumerfield.

This is really good value for money as a double pack. Both films are worth watching in their own right.

The American view film "Flags of Our Fathers" does have some really good action in it aka "Saving Private Ryan" - just as you'd expect these days. The thing I didn't like was the continuous back-and-throwing from the future look at how these "heroes" got on with regard the famous picture of the soldiers planting the flag, back to the action and then back again. It didn't flow very well for me.

At least it's not a gung-ho look at war which I was thankful for!

The Letters from Iwo Jima I found more satisfying. From the Japanese point of view it appeared more sensitive. Again it doesn't show a pro-war attitude but tries to show that each ... Read More:

I can scarcely believe that anyone took this movie seriously, principally because of Nicolas Cage's (par-for-the-course) appalling acting.. It is quite pitiful to watch him attempt to present a noble mien as the angelic character, cocking his head on one side; standing on a skyscraper in his long slouch coat, looking with compassion at the teeming millions below; speaking... very... slowly... to indicate that he is troubled by the torment of emotions which we poor humans have to endure. Really he is HYSTERICAL.
What is even worse is his transformation into a 'human' - soulful, puppy-eyed looks at Meg Ryan accompanied by speech of a normal speed, just in case we missed the finer points of his change in characterisation. This movie is a total hoot 'n' a holler and deserves an ... Read More:

Convoy is a tale of three truckers who defy a corrupt backwater sheriff and end up becoming a national cause celebre. On the run from the authorities, they cross several states and in doing so gather huge support - eventually leading to a horizon full of trucks in their wake.

The film is watchable and fun at times. It wouldn't win any awards, but it did have a long-lasting social appeal as it played a part in popularising CB radio in the UK (thus ushering in the era of silver rods on every second council house across the land).

The film is peppered with CB jargon. It also has an all star soundtrack - such as Kenny Rogers, Crystal Gayle, Billie Jo Spears, Merle Haggard and Glen Campbell (however, in practice, the music is actually low key throughout much of ... Read More:
