I'm not normally a fan of "family entertainment" or "fantasy" films ("Lord of the Rings" being an exception.) Even the thought of sitting through Harry Potter (I had to turn it off after 10 minutes) bores me. However, when I saw that Danes, De Niro and Pfeiffer were starring in "Stardust", I decided to give it a go. From beginning to end, it was a delight. I won't go into details about the plot, that's been written about enough. One of the great pleasures of the film is the light hand with which it is handled without ever diminishing the intensity of the various aspects of the story: the romance, the evil, the adventure. I, like many people, am becoming a huge fan of Del Toro's work both in English and Spanish and having really enjoyed the first Hellboy was excited about seeing this sequel. I saw it twice in the cinema, once in London in a special preview screening and again back at home on it's last night - and was completely bowled over both times. For someone like me who watched Ray Harryhausen creatures slugging it out on TV as a kid with his jaw open - this movie is a dream come true, Del Toro has just unlatched the top of his head and spilled his imagination onto celluloid and the result is amazing. After the great disappointments of the third Spider-Man and X-Men films, Iron Man sees a thankful return to form for films based on Marvels characters. Iron Man is the first film to be funded solely by Marvel and if it is anything to go by then the future of Marvel characters on the big screen is definitely looking up. Iron Man is the story of Tony Stark, a multimillionaire arms manufacture whose world view is changed after he is kidnapped by terrorists who want him to build weapons for them. Nonce he escapes he decides to build himself a suit of high-tech armour with which he can change the world. As origin films go this is definitely one of the best with only Batman Begins being better. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is another classic Indy adventure which stands up extremely well to the first three movies in the series. Those who were upset by what they saw as an 'unrealistic ending' obviously have never seen the ending to an Indiana Jones film! Put simply, this is classic Indiana Jones. Now onto the Blu ray disc itself - the image is crystal clear and the sound is superb. There are also numerous making-ofs and trailers. The only thing that would have made this release even better would have been a commentary track by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. All in all, this is a great movie and if you are a true Indiana Jones fan, you won't be disappointed by this.

As a fan of superhero movies, I have been a happy man recently. The quality of these movies has increased massively over the past few years. The Dark Knight, Spiderman and Hulk movies are great improvements on previous efforts.... can Iron Man keep up... OH YES! Watched this last night on my brand new 1080p TV and was blown away with the picture quality... amazing. Then you have the film itself. Sets up the character brilliantly, I really like Stark the playboy, and you are really convinced with his epiphany. With good performances from all the actors, great special effects and CGI that is not obvious, this made for a very entertaining 2 hours. Even sets you up for an exciting sequel..... a must buy for super hero movie fans, especially on Blu Ray

The overwhelming success of the Spider-Man and X-Men trilogies revitalised interest and credibility in superhero movies since the original Batman and Superman film franchises fell into great decline. Since then, floodgates have been opened, allowing all kinds of Marvel heroes to have a shot at cinematic stardom. Although (in my opinion) there haven't been any truly horrible Marvel films, the majority of these haven't lived up to the hype as they could've done. For example, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four (the first film) had all the necessary tools to be on a par with any of the X-Men/Spider-Man films, yet they weren't. Yes, the Star Wars cash cow is on show again presented nicely so it might win "best of breed". I suppose in a way this is George Lucas's revenge on the public, who pestered him for the original trilogy on dvd and then pestered him some more for the original original versions on dvd. My only surprise is that it doesn't say Limited Edition (yawn)

This movie is an unimaginative, disjointed, incomprehensible waste of time. Very poorly edited, it's a real botched version of Pullman's story which is itself far, far less 'special' than most Amazon reviewers would have you believe. If my child was entertained by this dross, I'd be concerned! I'm just glad I didn't pay to see it.

An interesting idea, quite well handled. Like other reviewers, I thought the first half was better than the second. There were a few inconsistencies in the plot, and some bits were a little silly, but overall it was both entertaining and enjoyable.
