Dolly Parton used to quip, "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap." The same could be said about Quentin Tarantino's Deathproof, a contemporary film post-produced to look like a low-budget grindhouse movie of the 70s. But the problem isn't the look of the film - it's the story, padded out with long scenes of dull dialogue that take you nowhere. A big disappointment.

For me, the movie itself is a nineties' classic: action, adventure and humour blended together seamlessly to provide a thoroughly enjoyable (if untaxing) two hour break from reality. Unfortunately, this DVD release is WOEFUL. I could forgive the complete lack of extras (not even a trailer or production notes) but the picture looks like a poor transfer from VHS: it may be anamorphic, but it suffers from clear macro-blocking, colour shifts, artifacing and wholly excessive grain from the opening Warner Bros logo to the end credits. The entire disc takes up less than 3.5gb: given the complete lack of additional material, I find it perplexing that Warner Bros didn't at least use up the remaining free space to give the video a much-needed ... If your looking for a great laugh watch Monkey. I remeber watching this on the BBC 2. It was funny then and its even funnier now. The fight scenes were great and the charecters were awesome. Monkey was spectacular and very different from the english comedies. I remeber Monkey on his cloud and with a metal ringover his head and i remeber pigsy and fish i use to call him fishy and i remeber the priest. Anyway u wanna laugh get monkey. By the way i use to nick name it monky magic

the second season of the shield starts 4/5 weks after the first season ended. vic mackey's personal life is falling apart as his wife has disappeared with the kids!!! this season sees major changes for all the characters and some new faces on both sides of the fight. throughout the season the strike team are trying to get their hands on their "retirement" fund, which is mostly dodgy dealings which they are known best for. great writing, great acting and the real life feel is still there!!!

I had always enjoyed watching this movie for all the reasons stated in other reviews, but last night I sat through an hour and fifty odd minutes of the director's cut of "Dark City" - released in 1998 and totally ignored by the majority of critics and film goers. In fact, The Director's Cut copy I had was given to me by a friend and, as far as I know, is not available in this country. The plot of this film is about a populace trapped in a perpetually dark city, which is closed down and re-tuned by the controllers. Memories are altered, people put into other slots in the society, and the entire landscape altered as part of the experiment. I wasn't sure what to expect considering I hadn't read the comics. I was impressed. This is a superb addition to the film noir tradition. It's modern take on the Raymond Chandler's Phillip Marlowe story. Yes, it is violent and yes it's sexist in terms of interpretation of women, but it's accurate translation of what you see in the comic books. I think it works well as a mix of animation and live action, better than 300. If it was fully animated or full live action then the film would have ended up being a pastiche. As it is, the casting, especially of Bruce Willis, Clive Owen and Mickey Rourke among the men is great. Some of the women are good too. If you can accept the violence, I would thoroughly recommend it.

Always wanted to buy this but had second thoughts about the price,bought this along with The Prestige and Equilibrium as part of the 3 for 10 offer. Speedy delivery and great value for money!

The collection comes in a regular 4-DVD box, rather than the nice fold-out sleeve pictured, which seems a bit of a cop-out on the presentation front. Content extrmely good, as we know, the films are great entertainment, and the extras aren't half-bad either. The film quality is better than mentioned by one of the other reviews, looking particularly good on a sharp LCD screen. Don't expect it to perform on HD, but that's the beauty of those new TVs, they make your old films look worse so you buy them again...a lovely bit of self-marketing. In short, if you have a regular telly, don't worry about the picture quality, it looks just as you'd expect it to. Well worth a purchase if you don't have these films. Two thumbs up.

I just love films like this, the special effects are fantastic, they dont make films like this anymore, its a pity as we english used to be leading the best film industry in the world. now we are hopless at making great films our American cousins have lead the way for such a long time.I also like this film as its location is Canary Islands in Tenerife, it is a lovely place its well worth a visit.
