Having seen this several times, I still can't decide if the writers were afraid to offend people by telling us what they stand for, or if they genuinely have no political beliefs worth mentioning. The satire of US foreign policy is hugely funny, but the rather weak lampooning of politically-engaged actors seems pointless. Making Matt Damon to be some kind of limp, stupid weakling has dated the movie as being pre-Bourne series.

Would they prefer it if successful actors just took their inflated salaries and spent them on big cars, whilst paying no attention to the rest of the world? C'mon, at least give them a break for trying. I bet Tim Robbins understands more about the world outside the USA than his President does.

This film is incredibly well made. The TV news reports in the early stage of the film build an atmosphere of inevitability, to the point where you're expecting the two-minute warning to happen at any time. The participants of the "underground administration" leaving their families adds to the foreboding. The imagery of the attack is quite shocking; in itself it demonstrates the horrors of nuclear war's collateral damage in a brutal and authentic manner.

I don't think the point of the film ends there. Right at the beginning, the narrative outlines the complex relationships between people, products and services in the context of industrial society. "A web of dependencies, connected by fragile threads". Having read material about the ... Read More:

President James Marshall (Ford) is in danger when a group of Russian terrorists take control of Air Force One.

Wolfgang Peterson (In the line of fire) delivers a fast and tense action thriller in which Harrison Ford (Star Wars) gives a good performance as President Marshall alongside a terrific act by Gary Oldman (Dracula) as the lead terrorist Ivan Korshunov.

Ford and Oldman give good performances but the star of the show is Peterson whose action style of direction maintains the tension and delivers excitement and claustrophobia on all the right levels, as does the writing by Andrew Marlowe.

The film gets off to the right start with a group of agents parachuting into General Radek's mansion and kidnapping him, ... Read More:

OK the FX of Tron are nothing to todays. But this film shows the level of CGI in 1982 the extra features illustrate how the FX are achieved and what a struggle this film was. Also the extra features tell the story of Tron from its earliest incarnations to the finished film. The film itself is not only a great story but it shows the level of computing at the time. Tron is in fact an Antivirus in a world before antivirus programs were even thought of.

black hawk down is based on actual events thus it is quite fictional in many parts. also it is throughly biased in which you are made to feel sorry for the americans who get killed(only 18) while the somalies are made to be shown as sub-human(more than 1000 somalies lose thier lives). on doing research into the conflict in somalia i learnt that it also has to do with oil just like iraq.

a 'good' war movie which pushes the american foreign policy and agenda.

i would like to see a movie of black hawk down from the somalian side if that will be possible.

There are problems with this film. Firstly, it has an inadequate score. What it needs is a grand theme tune which recurs throughout, but it doesn't have one. Secondly, it has been clumsily edited together by what seems to have been a passing butcher. Both the editing and the lack of a decent soundtrack suggest that little attention was paid to artistic or aesthetic considerations once the actual filming had been completed. I would also say the quality of the acting is patchy, at best. Rod Steiger is actually quite good as Napoleon, managing to convey the multi-faceted nature of the man in spite of the occasional banalities of the script. Christopher Plummer looks alright as Wellington, but he never quite seems to inhabit the character or capture the substance and tone ... Read More:

I was a bit concerned when I read some of the reviews, however, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this box-set, and do not agree with the criticisms levelled at the series by some of the people who have posted here.

I particularly disagree with the unfavourable comparisons to Robin of Sherwood. Both versions of the Robin Hood tale are thoroughly enjoyable romps which allow the viewer to temporarily escape mundane concrete reality.

Definitely worth 5 stars, and I am not easily pleased.

While it's not the best movie, it's quite okay to watch and not as bad as people say (well it would be good if it was on dvd in high quality). It comes with a 'making of' featurette which is quite good but only just over 19 mins long. The film itself is in 2.35:1 widescreen but not even anamorphic so it's NOT a good quality picture. Even when they show the movie on TV it's in anamorphic widescreen, but no - the current DVD isn't even anamorphic widescreen.

Most reviewers have said all that can be said so I'll just add a couple of humble points.
What I loved about this film was having no sense of time and place from the outset. It really added to the whole "lost tribe" concept that made it more worrysome! Considering the actors were mainly unknowns with no other work on their acting CVs, they were brilliant. Even the little children.
It amused how in bookstores you can buy these quaint little pocket books of tribal wisdom yet this film shows the reality of what these people were really like!
A very good film well worth seeing - experiencing, even. Riveting from the outset, amazing locations and tragic events. They even managed to include some light comedy with the poor man who was teased and joked with for apparent infertility. ... Read More:
